Uh oh, the only time these beautiful thugs come to visit is when our apples are ripe, and they don't believe in sharing. Better go out and pick today, before it's too late.

In the last 18 months or so, we've tried to create a new garden for guests to enjoy - a dry river bed and a pond to capture the overflow from our neighbour's dam, and then let the overflow from our pond go on its way across our paddocks to Stockyard Creek, which flows through Foster, and out to Corner Inlet. The birds and the frogs just love it, as does our resident wallaby, who carefully prunes our new plants each morning.

Our first pond leaked like a sieve, so we then resorted to installing a pond liner, which I hate, but it seemed to be the best solution. We were thrilled when our recent heavy rains made our riverbed flow and our pond overflow - only to discover that the water had found its way under the pond liner, which is now floating on the surface!! Oh dear, back to square one. And when the ground dries out, we'll to go Plan 3, whatever that is. Meanwhile, our thanks go to Donna Robinson from Cootamunga Gardening and Landscape for her ongoing support. One day it will be beautiful.

Whoo hoo! It's a big day at Llarrinda today, as we've just increased our solar panel capacity from 9.4 kW to 15 kW, and added big battery storage. So happy to be doing our bit for the environment.

Well, as a B&B we welcome all guests, and now have a new resident to take care of - a young brush-tail possum who has taken up residence in the gutter of our Vergola. He/she's gorgeous, but can't live in our gutter forever, as whatever she does up there, ends up in our water tanks! So lucky to live with nature.

So, this is a first for us. This is a pair of White Headed Pigeons, and they're not supposed to live in our colder climate. They normally live from Queensland rainforests down to southern New South Wales, but not Victoria. We saw our first one here in November 2016, which we thought was a refugee from the bushfires further east. We've seen another single bird on a couple of occasions since, also after bush fires and just for a day or two. And now there are two, all fluffed up against the cold wind, and they've been around for a couple of weeks. At Llarrinda we welcome refugees from all over the world, and we hope they make their home here.

Today we quietly celebrated Llarrinda B & B's 10th anniversary of welcoming guests to our very special corner of the world. Back in December 2013, we never dreamt that anyone would want to stay in our home. Today, we don't know how many thousands of guests we've welcomed, but one by one they are etched in our memories.

When we first opened our doors, we could never have imagined the people we would meet or the stories we would share - usually over a glass of wine or a cup of tea in front of the fire. It's been a privilege to be part of so many special moments in our guests' lives.

We've prided ourselves on offering an authentic country hospitality experience - a home away from home - coupled with personalised service and a passion for South Gippsland's landscapes and wildlife. Hopefully, an experience to remember.

And, as we celebrate our amazing milestone, we are also announcing our plans to retire and close Llarrinda Bed Breakfast in 18 months - on June 30, 2026.

Our decision, though bittersweet, comes as we look forward to spending more time with friends and family, and exploring our own travel dreams.

We feel incredibly grateful for the support we've received over the years - it's been an extraordinary chapter in our lives, but we're excited to chase new adventures while we can.

As Llarrinda prepares for its final chapter, we hope to see familiar faces return and new visitors experience the magic of this corner of the world. For those wishing to book a stay before we close, early reservations are encouraged. But please call or email us, as the online booking calendars have less flexibility than we have.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the South Gippsland community and our loyal guests from all over the world for making the past 10 years so memorable. You've enriched our lives. Llarrinda is a labour of love, and it's all of you who have made it so special. But it's not all over yet ... we've still got 18 months to go, and we're looking forward to every minute.

For the last few days we've had our heads in the clouds, immersed in fog and our view restricted to just a few metres. But the night before the fog set in our guest captured this amazing view of the night sky with her iPhone, from our garden. How many stars? How many planets? It's low-res, but it's amazing. And forgive me if I'm wrong, but I do believe that in the background is the beginning of an Aurora Australis.

A couple of nights before this, we saw Elon Musk's Starlink Satellites crossing the sky as bright as day. How lucky we are to have a big dark sky where we can see the world pass by.

We know we live in a wildlife paradise, but we rarely see almost everything in one day! Apart from all of the birds that flock to our deck every day, today we woke up to a Koala, a Wallaby with joey, a Wombat and a Kangaroo, that we didn't get a photo of. It really doesn't get better than this.

A few nights ago there was a lot of grunting, growling and screaming going on in our garden (mating koalas), and the next morning here was one of the culprits. He/she stayed until 4.14 am the next day, and then decamped. We love our wildlife at Llarrinda - it's such a privilege to live here.
