An old OFS family member and friend Kalen Gettler wrote to Maria & Bruce yesterday morning with this very sad news of the passing of an OFS legend Kenny Toch 💚
Kalen writes ...when I showed up at the Old Fire Station in January 2007 Kenny was already there. He was one of the first friends I made. Along with, Jonas Hallerth, David Larson, Swiss Chris, Ed Pesque, a handful of Irish (you know who you are), and not long after, Stefan Pausch showed up with dreadlocks down to his ass.
There’s not a memory I have of that place that doesn’t involve Kenny Toch. He’s in more than half of my old photos. He was literally friends with every person there, he had kindest heart and a knack for finding the “Craic”. When I left in November 2007 (holy crap 8 months.... 7 months longer than I intended) he was standing out front waving as I drove away.
After a year in New Zealand, I inevitably made my way back to Freo (who could stay away?) where Kenny headed the welcoming committee and when I left again in June 2099 he was standing out front as I headed to the airport in tears.
To me, he embodied everything that the OFS was for all of us; A home so very far from home, a family of loving strangers, an unparalleled zest for life, and some real bangers in the back courtyard.
Anyone who ever had the honour to meet Kenny knows that he was one in a million.
This morning was his last day on this earth, he left on his own terms and most of us never saw it coming, because, although most of us still keep in touch, he didn’t even tell us he was sick until yesterday.
Kenny Toch is a true OFS LEGEND and one of the best people I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. He will not be forgotten ♥️
Vale Kenny Toch from all at The Old Fire Station ♥️ 🔥
