A bit chuffed to be featured by our local Visitor Information Centre as a local legend. In all seriousness, Georgetown is the best and y’all should come visit!
Our community is full of incredible people, and today we’re shining a spotlight on two of them 🌟
Meet Joe & Bekky Haase! From volunteering at countless local events to donating their time and efforts into the community — all while owning and running their own business — Joe & Bekky are true Etheridge Shire Local Legends!
We opened The Grey Galah BnB in 2023 after noticing a real need for more accommodation in Georgetown. Joe enjoys renovating, while I love creating welcoming, functional spaces, making it a natural fit. We also enjoy sharing our local knowledge and helping guests connect with other local businesses. Three years on, we’re proud to offer consistently clean, comfortable rooms.
One of the most rewarding parts of running the BnB is knowing guests leave with a positive impression of Georgetown. When they have a great experience with us and it shapes how they think about and talk about the town, that means a lot.
Living here offers so much—from family adventures along the rivers, swimming and 4WDing, to community events that are full of entertainment and still affordable. We love not having to factor in commute times, the strong sense of community, and that it’s a safe place for kids to grow up. Having opportunities to grow, have fun and build a life here make Georgetown special.
Along the way, we’ve been lucky to have wonderful, respectful guests—so much so that our only “theft” was two jars of homemade Rosella Jam and Marmalade from the guest fridge, sourced from Venies Fruit & Veg on Georgetown’s main street.
Looking ahead, what excites us most is the potential to grow The Grey Galah. In 2026, we’re planning to expand our accommodation to include a self-contained unit and streamline our processes. We also get excited to invest in our current team as they keep turning up to offer an exceptional guest experience.
