How ridiculous !! 210 Car Spaces.

The latest piece of south east Queensland’s once-in-a-generation rail transformation is underway on the Gold Coast, with the official opening of Hope Island station.

Trains started stopping at its platforms on Monday 18th May for the first time, with the Hope Island site becoming the second brand new train station in less than a year to service the Gold Coast.

Hope Island station will provide the community with greater access to convenient rail services, expanding options for easy travel on the Gold Coast, as well as to Brisbane.

Locals who previously travelled to Coomera or Helensvale to catch a train will enjoy more travel options closer to home including new and improved connecting bus services.

The completed station features 210 parking spaces, an accessible entry plaza with lifts to each platform, a 40-bicycle lock-up enclosure, lighting, and CCTV throughout.

To maintain connectivity, local bus timetables have been reviewed and updated, and minor timetable changes have been made at other Gold Coast line stations to include the new Hope Island station stop.

It’s just one of the ways the Queensland Government is delivering a plan for Queensland’s future and better connecting south east Queensland’s growing population.

The station opening marks another major milestone as the Queensland Government gets Cross River Rail back on track after years of mismanagement and the CFMEU’s control of the project.

Premier David Crisafulli said the Government was delivering generational infrastructure for the Gold Coast and across south east Queensland.

“The new Hope Island station is a gamechanger for the Gold Coast and is a key step forward to meeting the demands of a fast-growing region,” Premier Crisafulli said.

"Along with our Permanent 50 Cent Fares, we are delivering generational infrastructure right across our State and expanding public transport options for Queenslanders.”

Minister for Transport and Main Roads Brent Mickelberg said Hope Island station was a clear example of the Queensland Government’s commitment to delivering the transport infrastructure Queenslanders need.

“We’ve worked hard to restore momentum on Cross River Rail, and the progress is clear as we’ve now opened two of the three new stations on the Gold Coast,” Mr Mickelberg said.

“With projects like Cross River Rail, Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail, and The Wave on the Sunshine Coast, we’re building the public transport network Queenslanders need for 2032 and beyond.”

Member for Theodore Mark Boothman said the fast-growing region would benefit significantly from the new train station and bus connections.

“Hope Island station will help ease congestion on our roads by providing convenient train services to the Gold Coast, Brisbane City, and beyond,” Mr Boothman said.

“It will also relieve pressure on Helensvale station, currently the busiest train station outside Brisbane CBD.

“The three connecting bus services include the introduction of a new route, extended alignments and operating hours on existing services to better connect Hope Island and surrounding communities, including Paradise Point and Runaway Bay, with new the station.

“These changes will improve public transport coverage, increase service frequency, and make it easier for residents and visitors to access rail services, local shops, medical services, and employment.”

Hope Island station is one of three new train stations being delivered on the Gold Coast. Pimpama station opened in October 2025, while Merrimac station is currently under construction.

Gold Coast police have charged 13 people as part of a high-visibility road policing operation targeting impaired and dangerous drivers on 23 May.

The operation was conducted under Operation Razor as part of the statewide road safety initiative, Operation Interpose.

Officers established two static roadside breath testing sites at Hope Island and Runaway Bay.

During the operation, police conducted 637 roadside breath tests and three roadside drug tests, resulting in 10 drink driving charges, two drug driving offences and one unlicensed driving offence.

Police also issued 14 traffic infringement notices during the operation.

Among those intercepted was a man, who police will allege returned a breath alcohol concentration reading of 0.198 per cent after being stopped at the Hope Island site around 9.40pm.

The 40-year-old Upper Coomera has been charged with one count each of did drive U.I.L., fail to comply with requirement to stop private vehicle and fail to provide specimen of breath saliva or blood for analysis or test on requirement other than under s 80(11).

He is due to appear at Southport Magistrates Court on 8 June.

Police will further allege a 32-year-old South Ripley man returned a breath alcohol concentration reading of 0.155 per cent after being intercepted on Hope Island Road around 11.50pm.

A 36-year-old Mermaid Beach woman allegedly returned a breath alcohol concentration reading of 0.119 per cent when intercepted shortly before midnight.

Both were issued with a Notice to Appear for drink driving – 0.15 and over and are due to appear at Southport Magistrates Court on 8 June.

At around 12.50am, a 38-year-old Gordan Park woman was intercepted at the Hope Island site where police will allege, she returned a breath alcohol concentration reading of 0.086 per cent.

She has been issued Notice to Appear for drink driving – 0.05 and under 0.10 and is due to appear at Southport Magistrates Court on 12 June.

A 60-year-old Bethania woman was also intercepted at the Hope Island site and allegedly returned a breath alcohol concentration reading of 0.099 per cent.

She has been charged with one count of did drive over general alcohol limit but not over the middle alcohol limit and is due to appear at Southport Magistrates Court on 15 June.

Police also charged a 38-year-old man with drug driving offences after allegedly returning a positive roadside saliva test.

Acting Superintendent Kayleen James said police would continue conducting highly visible roadside enforcement activities across the Gold Coast.

“Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs puts every road user at risk and these results are disappointing,” Acting Superintendent James said.

“Operation Interpose is about reducing road trauma and ensuring motorists understand they can be intercepted anywhere, anytime.

“There is no excuse for getting behind the wheel impaired, particularly when there are so many safe transport alternatives available.

“We will continue to run high-visibility and targeted operations as part of Operation Interpose to keep the community safe and hold offenders to account.”

Gold Coast police are reminding motorists that drink driving significantly increases the risk of serious crashes and fatalities, and there is no excuse for getting behind the wheel while impaired.

Hardware store set to open at Hope Island.
Reports are that a former restaurant site at Hope Island marina will be turned into a small scale hardware store, selling general small electrical items as well as hardware.
A company spokesman said it will be nothing like a Bunning’s but more like an old fashioned general hardware store.
Works are due to begin at the end of the month when the current tenant will be closing its doors.
Speaking with locals, the general feeling is that it’s a great idea and exactly what the area needs.
