Chatting random today.
I’m getting ready for a new chapter in 2023.
The paperwork is signed to sell my beautiful home Hale Nalu Beach House.
I love this funky beach house but the yard’s too big.
A smaller cottage, still by the beach, that I can lock up and leave, will suit me better.
So I’m beginning to pack.
Already, I’ve found treasures, the things you’d grab in a fire.
Like this photo.
I was in my early 20s and studying journalism north of London.
Me and my friend met my mum and dad at Lords Cricket Ground for a major match between Somerset and Essex.
To fill you in, Somerset is considered a lower class, yokel kind of country.
Essex, more upper class.
It’s a broad generalisation but that’s how things were.
(Kind of like the SA vs Vic rivalry).
I pretty sure this photo was the outcome of the last ball.
My friend snapped it, capturing perfectly the joy in us, as opposed to the Essex fans behind us.
I’m telling this story because as you go through your stuff, it’s the little things, like this photo, that really are the big things.
