The Rushes Riverside Goolwa offers unique holiday accommodation in the heart of this historic river port on the River Murray where the river enters the ocean at the Murray Mouth. Just over a 60-minute drive south of Adelaide, South Australia, the name "Goolwa" means "elbow" in Ngarrindjeri, the local Aboriginal language. Goolwa is home of the paddle steamer Oscar W, the fully operational steam tra

in, the Cockle Train and many historical attractions. Known for being an aquatic paradise with both river and sea, Goolwa is a tourist hotspot. Natural and recycled materials have been blended to give The Rushes its rustic elegance. Perfect for a romantic getaway or just to spoil yourself. The central courtyard’s open fireplace has been cleverly constructed with old red bricks in keeping with the heritage of the area. The courtyard allows light to flow through the rooms and is the perfect spot to relax in front of the fire. Guests are spoiled with the luxurious bedroom having a comfy queen size bed and indulgent deep soaking bath. An adjacent separate bathroom is well appointed with heated towel rail and soft fluffy towels. The front room has a cosy sitting area with a window looking out toward the Wharf and Lake Alexandrina. The lounge area has a comfortable sofa, smart TV and complimentary Wi-Fi. The rear sun deck and bbq area is a peaceful spot to relax elevated over the lush bamboo garden.

⚠️ Important update for recreational fishers at Goolwa Beach

Pipis (Goolwa Cockles) collected from Goolwa Beach (Middleton Point to the Murray Mouth) should currently be used for bait only due to detected brevetoxins.

✔️ Commercially harvested p**is (south of the Murray Mouth) remain safe to eat
✔️ All commercial shellfish in South Australia continues to undergo strict testing to ensure food safety

While recent water testing shows no active algal bloom, p**is can retain toxins in the environment even after blooms have passed.

🪧 Signage will be in place along Goolwa Beach in multiple languages to inform fishers.
📅 Reminder: Recreational p**i collection closes 31 May

We are proud to welcome back Ava May to the Murray Sunset Culinary Festival on Saturday the 7th of March at Jaralde Park, Goolwa.

Ava is a talented Fleurieu Peninsula local and a returning artist from one of our previous events, where she delivered a standout performance — including singing her first ever released song live, “One Night Standards”.

Ava’s music brings the perfect mix of warmth, emotion and atmosphere, and she will be helping set the tone for an evening of:
🍴 mouth-watering food vendors
🌅 sunset festival vibes
🎶 live local entertainment
🧺 picnic rugs + chairs on the grass
🍻 open bar
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 a relaxed, family-friendly community night

✨ Ava will be busking on the day, and we would love to see our community show her some support — if you enjoy the music, please feel free to stop, get yourself something to eat, find a comfy spot, listen, and contribute if you’re able. Supporting local artists is one of the most important parts of what makes events like this so special.
