August 18 is the anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan, and commemorates Vietnam Veteran’s Day each year.

It’s a day to remember the brave sacrifices made in the Vietnam War and lend a listening ear to a mate who served.

Standown Park hosts a large ceremony on this day every year, and we welcome all Vietnam Veterans and their family to join us. Please see our previous post for a full program.

Standown makes the perfect base to explore some of our region’s best spots. Spend the day in Gympie browsing local shops & cafes and stocking up on groceries, or hop aboard the iconic Mary Valley Rattler for a scenic ride through the countryside. Prefer the coast? Head the opposite direction to Tin Can Bay and enjoy a great day trip with dolphin feeding, boating, fishing, and relaxing by the water. Both Gympie and Tin Can Bay are about 20 minutes drive away from our park.

Every year for Veteran’s Day, Standown Park hosts a large ceremony to commemorate the brave sacrifices made in the Vietnam War. This year the day falls on a Monday and we are hosting events from Monday 17th – Wednesday 19th August and invite all Veterans and their family to join us.

Full program:
Monday 17th August
5.00pm: Entertainment by Maria Whittaker
Sausage Sizzle.

Tuesday 18th August
9am start: Show us your skills at the Veterans Games Challenge. No game too strenuous, so all can participate. Only $2.00 to enter with proceeds to the Veteran’s Anzac Day Push to the Bush.
12.30pm: BYO finger food lunch to share in the camp kitchen
3.00pm: Veteran’s March to the Memorial lead by RSM Noel Huish
5.00pm: Entertainment by Broken Silence and multi draw Raffle and Auction.
Dinner –Standown Roast, with veggies, roast potatoes & potato bake and pavlova

$45 per person to attend, plus site fees

Wednesday 19th August
8am -9am Big Brekky

Wednesday Big Brekky costs an additional $15 per person.
