As part of the Festival, , who run our door adventures and hikes, launched a new experience called “Abseil Under the Stars!”

I’ve always wanted to try abseiling, but I’ve never had the courage to do it—I’m a bit of a chicken when it comes to heights. So, I thought this could be the perfect opportunity to take the plunge! After all, I wouldn’t be able to see where I was going, right?

When the night arrived, I was incredibly nervous. Terrified is more like it! I found myself questioning why I had signed up and how I could possibly get out of it. After some introductions and safety instructions, we got kitted out in harnesses, helmets, and headlamps before heading into the bush.

Finally, my turn came to take the plunge. I approached the instructor, who greeted me with a big smile. Instantly, I felt at ease. I don’t know how they did it, but Adrian and his team took all the fear away. As I stepped out onto the edge, my fear transformed into excitement, and I was completely taken aback by the incredible sights! The large moon peeked through the clouds, casting moon shadows and silhouettes of the instructors above. It was truly beautiful.

Down I went, step by step. I made it! Adrian welcomed me at the bottom with a delicious hot chocolate topped with marshmallows. Could this night get any better? Yes, because we got to do a second abseil!

Seriously, I had the best night. I faced my fears and emerged feeling strong and proud of myself. I can’t recommend Adrian and his team enough for giving me such a wonderful experience!

After years of anticipation, Stage One of the —Australia’s first dedicated space for environmental art—is finally launching this weekend on July 5!

Nestled on the traditional lands of the Djab Wurrung and Jardwadjali peoples in the beautiful Gariwerd/Grampians region, the Wama Foundation represents an innovative blend of contemporary artistic expression and environmental awareness. This ambitious project has been years in development, spearheaded by visionary patron Glenda Lewin and a talented collective of local artists. Their aim was to create a vibrant hub that not only celebrates the profound connection between art and nature but also enriches the cultural landscape of regional Victoria.

The Wama Foundation spans an expansive 16-hectare precinct, designed to transform the visitor experience through immersive environmental art installations and interactive exhibits. At the core of this initiative is the National Centre for Environmental Art, the only institution of its kind in Australia, which will serve as a vital resource for artists, educators, and environmental advocates alike. This centre aims to foster dialogue and collaboration around ecological issues, making art a pivotal part of the conversation about our relationship with the environment.

Through its dynamic programming and thoughtfully curated exhibitions, the Wama Foundation promises to be a beacon of creativity and sustainability, inviting visitors to reflect on the role of art in addressing pressing environmental challenges.

With the current rains, there is no better time to see the waterfalls

Chase waterfalls this winter in the Grampians (Gariwerd). Whether you're a seasoned hiker or a weekend walker, the Grampians region is full of stunning cascades and breathtaking views.

1. MacKenzie Falls in Wartook Valley is one of Victoria’s most powerful and iconic waterfalls. Don’t miss the lookout!

2. Lower Waterfalls of Gar's newer track offers peaceful trails and jaw-dropping scenery.

3. Head north to see water tumble 25 metres into tranquil rock pools at Beehive Falls.

4. Hike from the Wonderland Carpark to Splitters Falls, or take the lush fern-lined trail to Silverband Falls, only 15 minutes from Halls Gap.

5. Near Hamilton, you’ll find Wannon Falls and the Nigretta Falls, both fed by the Wannon River.
