Parts of the Grampians (Gariwerd) National Park which have not been affected by fire are now open to visitors as of 9am today, Friday 10 January.

Visitors can now enjoy many of the popular lookouts, hiking tracks, waterfalls and campgrounds the national park offers. For a full list of current site openings and closures, visit https://www.parks.vic.gov.au/coc-listing?type=Fire -(Gariwerd)-National-Park

Collaboration between the community and agencies is vital to ensure everyone’s safety. Visitors are encouraged to stay aware of ongoing risks and environment changes such as falling or damaged trees, smoke, and injured wildlife.

Together, we share the responsibility for safety as heavy machinery travels through the area, along with fire crews who continue to monitor and manage the fire.

Thank you doesn’t seem enough to everyone involved with keeping Halls Gap alive …. The drive up showed just how wild and hectic it must have been in the peak of it. Feelings of guilt and helplessness carried for those who fought to save everything …. May the coming summer months be kind on the fire front wherever you are 🫢🏼

We know visitors are keen to get back to the lovely Halls Gap after the recent bushfire, so plans are in place to allow that to happen – but only when it is safe.

Challenging conditions are expected over the weekend with very hot, dry and windy weather forecast on both Saturday and Sunday. Thankfully, these conditions are forecast to ease Sunday evening into Monday.

If the fire remains within current containment lines and no more significant fire activity is experienced over the weekend, fire agencies are looking to re-open Halls Gap to businesses and visitors during next week.

The reopening of non-fire affected sections of the Grampians National Park will be assessed at the same time.

These decisions will be made in consultation with local councils, business and tourism groups, and Parks Victoria.
