There’s something special about travelling solo through Gariwerd. The slow mornings, the hikes that last as long (or as short) as you want, the space to think clearly. If you're heading out on your own, here’s what we've learned:

🥾 Let the day lead you. You don't have to summit the highest peak to have a great day. Try the quieter trails like Fish Falls or Beehive Falls and enjoy having them (almost) to yourself.

🛖 Stay somewhere that feels both peaceful and safe. Solo travel is best when you're relaxed. Cabins or glamping near Halls Gap give you easy access to good food and phone signal, without losing that ‘middle-of-nowhere’ magic.

📍 Download maps before you go. Some spots go quiet on reception. Grab offline maps (try AllTrails or Gaia GPS) and let someone know your plans.

📖 Bring something you never get time for. A book you’ve been meaning to read. A journal. That podcast series you've been saving.

🍽️ Don't skip dinner just because you're solo. Take a book, sit at the bar or go early when it’s quieter. A glass of wine and a good feed is the perfect way to end your day.

🦘 Be open to the side quests. Chat to a winemaker. Detour to a silo art stop. Visit a gallery. Solo travel often leads to the most unexpected, memorable moments.

Thank you to all our wonderful guests who have stayed with us over the past year. Your excellent reviews have been recognised by Booking.com in their "Traveller Review Awards" for 2025.

We work hard to give our guests the best possible experience (though we can't stop bushfires!), and we cherish the feedback our guests provide.

We look forward to welcoming new and returning guests in the coming year.

Kangaroo with Joey (just chillin')
What a chill Mum. Here at Halls Gap Valley Lodges we don't see the Joey (baby kangaroo) in the Mum's pouch every day, but we do see them from time to time. And isn't she chill! She doesn't mind at all that a human has come up quite close to get a photo.
You do have to look closely - can you spot the Joey?

Some of our furry friends have had a lovely life up till now, with plenty of pleasant grazing at Halls Gap Valley Lodges and beyond.

Now they, like ourselves, are facing a massive bushfire threat, as the Grampians bushfire makes its way towards Halls Gap township.

The fantastic, brave, dedicated firefighters from various agencies (Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV), Country Fire Authority (CFA), and Forest Fire Management Victoria (FFMVic)) are battling to keep the fire south of Silverband Road. So far they appear to be succeeding. We say a huge thanks to all these people.

To all our friends, guests, neighbours and of course the wildlife, stay safe.
