Some of Australia’s most iconic stretches of sand have been upstaged by a little-known former whaling spot in Western Australia to be named Tourism Australia’s best beach. But not far behind it was South Australia’s Flaherty’s Beach, which claimed fourth position.

Misery Beach, near Albany on the southern tip of WA, was named the country’s best beach for 2022 by Tourism Australia.

Tourism Minister Dan Tehan announced the best beach list on Sunday, compiled by beach ambassador Brad Farmer.

“With more than 11,000 beaches to choose from, narrowing down the top 20 beaches must be one of the toughest jobs in Australia,” Mr Tehan said.

South Australia’s Emu Bay also made the list ranking at 16th.

Hello Sapphire friends and happy festive season!

I have had a lot of requests to stay with us over the Christmas break..

After some issues with the holiday rental agency and cleaner, have decided to close the house for some renovations over the Christmas / New Year break.

I know this will cause some disappointment but we look forward to seeing you all in the New Year 😃

We wish you all a very Merry Christmas, full of love, family, friends and happiness🎄

We had some gorgeous days on the beach... playing in the sand, finding crabs on the reef, paddling in the shallows, flying kites, racing up sand hills and it general...enjoying the sunshine!
