Margie McClelland Photography

Margie McClelland Photography Wildlife & regional photographer based in Hay, NSW. I capture life as it unfolds — from outback events and rural stories to wild animals across Africa.

Available for prints, commissions and event photography. www.margiemcclelland.com I am a passionate photographer living in Hay in the Riverina of NSW Australia. Initially, being a wife and mother on the land in outback NSW, my skills developed from documenting pastoral subjects and life on large station properties. Later, a dozen trips through Africa supporting my husband Chris, an internationally

renowned wildlife artist, gave me a fascination for wildlife photography. This interest was also pursued in Patagonia, the Brazilian Pantanal and the Amazon. I worked for The Riverine Grazier newspaper in Hay for a number of years and my camera is continuing to capture a broad range of local events from sport to subjects of general interest. Some of my photographs have appeared in city media and in magazines supporting safari lodge reviews undertaken in Africa by Chris. My photos have been shown in numerous exhibitions and I am a member of the MAP group of mainly professional photographers based in Melbourne. (Many Australian Photographers)

Farewell to my special sister Mignon who lost her fight with cancer a week ago 31st May. Six days before her 74th birthday. We were lucky to spend time with her in February before it was diagnosed. Our love and thoughts are with her devoted husband Mark, their two sons Miro and Laszlo, their wives Ayumi and Juhee and grand daughter’s Nanoha and Lina. Another expected in a few weeks. Mignon was a very special person and will be greatly missed by us all.

There are moments in Africa that never really leave you.
You don’t just photograph them… you carry them home with you.

Flashback to South Africa, 2023 - where every sunrise felt ancient, every sound carried through the grasslands, and every encounter reminded me how small we really are beside the wild.

From the quiet strength of A Majestic Giant, to the raw tension of Grievance Intent, to the curious pause of a lone wildebeest standing in the dust… these weren’t just photographs. They were moments suspended in time.

Africa has a way of slowing you down.
Of making you watch. Wait. Feel.

As a wildlife photographer, it’s never only about capturing an animal. It’s about capturing presence - the personality in the eyes of a lion, the wisdom in an elephant’s movement, the unpredictability of nature unfolding in front of you.

Looking back at these images today brings back the heat, the dust, the silence before movement… and the overwhelming privilege of witnessing these creatures in their world.

Some places change you forever.
Africa was one of them.

There are moments in nature that feel fleeting… and then there are moments that stay with you.

Bee After Pollen was one of those.

I remember watching this little bee, completely dusted in pollen, going about its work with such quiet determination. There was something beautiful in its purpose - no noise, no show, just doing what it was meant to do.

I’m incredibly honoured that this image has just been awarded The Frame Award by ViewBug.

Recognition like this means a lot - not just for me, but for the subject itself. It’s a reminder that even the smallest moments in nature can hold real power and beauty.

This piece has always been about more than a bee…
It’s about resilience, purpose, and the quiet rhythm of the natural world.

I’ve always loved the Deni Easter Show - it brings people together in a way that feels genuine and familiar.

This year was extra special, with my Sunrise Over Sheep Yards limited edition print finding a new home.

It’s a photograph that means a lot to me… that quiet moment at sunrise in the yards before the day begins.

Thank you to everyone who came by and took the time to connect with my work. I really appreciate the support.
