Why we decided to buy and manage a guesthouse

When I was a child I used to love spending time at holiday houses owned by family and friends. Days spent lazing on a balcony or playing in the local bushland went so fast that it would be over in a flash with us packing up the car, promising to come and stay again during the next holiday.

Monopoly, Scrabble, Cludo, Twister and later on Trivial Pursuit and Chess were played in the evenings as we sat around - often pink with sunburn and lashings of even brighter pink calamine lotion that our Mum insisted on applying to mosquito bites and sunburn.

BBQ’s being cooked on the deck or fish and chips from the local shops, partnered with a Passiona, Fanta, Creaming Soda or Tarax Black Label (if you felt a bit posh).

It was the sound of cicadas as you fell asleep and the call of magpies as you woke up. Every day was an adventure!

Later on I would book holiday homes and spend quality time with friends. We’d sit around drinking (very cheap!) red wine, toasting marshmallows, chatting about our lives, singing silly songs and supporting each other through the ups and downs of life. The days were filled with antique shops, wineries, bush walks, spa visits, golf and finding amazing swimming holes or waterfalls where we could spend the day.

Life became busier so week long holidays became weekends away for a day or two in Winter. Late cafe breakfasts, spas, massages and eating excellent local produce were the order of the day, with nightime being devoted to sitting in front of the fire with cups of mulled wine, and of co urse toasting marshmallows.

Some of the most contented days of my life have been spent at a comfy holiday house and I wanted to have a business that brought that kind of joy to people’s lives.

The fabulous man in my world, Oliver, is actually the one who found TreeTops. He called up and said, “I’ve got an idea”, which is code for ‘just hear me out’. I did, and then found myself driving up to Hepburn Springs on a 3 degree day.

I fell in love with TreeTops as soon as I stood on the deck. I called Oliver and said, “you have to come up here - it’s beautiful. I can’t describe it - it’s beautiful”. He came up and we bought the house.

Turning it into the perfect place to get away from it all has been our labour of love. The feedback from our guests has helped, we’ved loved your useful suggestions and appreciated it when you’ve left wonderful reviews.

That being said we couldn’t run TreeTops without some truly amazing people to help us! Rosie and Pete are our local house managers. They are the ones who make sure that everything is perfect for your check in. They are also very talented artists who have a stand at the Amazing Mill Market in Daylesford - you can also see a couple of pieces of Rosie’s work in the Autum Bedroom.

Where possible, we use local businesses to supply all of our services at TreeTops. Our laundry, spa maintenance, wood supplier and gardener are all locals and we try to buy our supplies from local business as well. The Daylesford / Hepburn Springs area is loaded with excellent produce and we can’t recommend it enough!

We have worked hard to make TreeTops the perfect place for you to create lasting memories of precious time spent with those you love.
