We are in the perfect location, whether you wish to self-drive or hop on board one of our 2-night / 3-day personalised tours, you will love the location and the Australian bush experience. For just a little extra you can choose from our Platypus Safari or Night Safari. The tours add to the Australian bush experience and cover the unique animals, ecosystems and landscape within the Hidden Valley area. Each tour is one and half to two hours and leaves daily. Hidden Valley Cabins is a family run business. We pride ourselves on personalised service, quality home cooked meals and unique tours. Ian and Bonnie McLennan have owned Hidden Valley Cabins since 1986, come and join the family, have dinner with the owners and hear their stories.

One of our most loved retreats is BACK for 2027! 🥹💕

And if previous years are anything to go by, these spots won’t last long! Our Mother & Daughter Retreats are always some of the first to be snapped up, and for a very special reason. ❤️

This retreat is about honouring the beautiful, undeniable bond we share with our daughters as mothers. A bond that grows, changes, challenges us, teaches us and brings us a love unlike any other.

From those little hands that once held ours so tightly, to the young women they’re slowly becoming, every stage brings something new. And amongst the busyness of life, sometimes we forget to simply stop and enjoy the beautiful relationship we’re building along the way.

This weekend is about exactly that. 💕

Stepping away from the school runs, washing piles, busy schedules and everyday responsibilities to simply be together.

To laugh, reconnect, have those conversations we don’t always find time for, try something new, make memories and celebrate the special relationship between a mother and her daughter (or daughters!).

Happy 30th Birthday to one of the most important men in our lives 🤎

Kurt, your passion, knowledge, love and genuine respect for what you do goes so far beyond the normal “tour guide” job description.

You don’t just guide people through this beautiful part of the world — you genuinely care about it. The wildlife, the land, the stories, the people who visit, and protecting and sharing this incredibly special place in the right way.

Beyond Hidden Valley, you are an amazing father and husband, a loyal and kind friend, and someone with the most gentle and giving heart.

We are so incredibly proud of the courage it took to take on this crazy, beautiful place — to build on it, add to it, dream bigger and truly make Hidden Valley Cabins & Tours your own.

There are so many moving parts behind this place, and you are one of the strong men behind Hidden Valley who quietly keeps the wheels turning. Guiding tours, fixing whatever has inevitably broken, working outside until dark, looking after guests, sharing your knowledge, teaching the kids and doing a million things most people never see.

So much of what Hidden Valley is today has your fingerprints all over it.

But more importantly, we are just so incredibly blessed to have you in our lives.

We cannot wait to see what your 30s bring you in this lifetime.

Your 20s brought some pretty incredible things — a family, plenty of adventures, some enormous leaps of faith and one very special little piece of the world to call our own.

And somehow, it feels like that was only the beginning. 🤎

The last few weeks at Hidden Valley 🤎🌿

August and September were FULL — full of love, retreats, families, school holidays, horses, kids, guests, tours, long days, beautiful moments and plenty of organised chaos in between.

We’ve welcomed so many people through the gates, shared some really special retreat weekends, watched families slow down and enjoy the bush, survived another round of school holidays 😅 and, somewhere amongst all of that, still found time for our own family.

Then came the October long weekend… and wow, you certainly kept us busy! 😂

Behind the scenes, we’ve also been extremely short staffed over the past few weeks, which has meant all hands on deck and a lot less time sitting in the office answering emails and messages. We genuinely appreciate how patient, kind and understanding everyone has been when replies have taken us a little longer than usual.

We do still have some accommodation availability between now and the end of the year for anyone wanting one last Hidden Valley escape for 2026. 🌿

As we move into the wet season, though, we do usually start limiting and eventually closing accommodation availability. With the current conditions and restrictions on Mt Spec Road, heavy rainfall can make access more complicated if the road closes, so we prefer to be cautious rather than have guests caught out by changing conditions.

For now, we’re catching our breath, cleaning cabins, resetting the resort, answering the mountain of emails and getting ready for everything still to come.

Thank you to everyone who has stayed, toured, retreated, visited, shared our posts, recommended us or simply been patient with us over these incredibly busy few months.

It’s been a lot… but a really beautiful kind of a lot. 🤎

🇩🇪 GERMAN SPEAKERS – WE’D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU! 🇦🇺🌿

Hidden Valley Cabins & Tours is looking for German-speaking people who may be interested in joining some of our North Queensland day tours as a translator.

You would not be responsible for guiding or driving the tour yourself — you would travel alongside one of our experienced guides/drivers, translating their commentary and information from English into German for our guests throughout the day.

Our tours are generally around 8 hours and may include visiting some incredible North Queensland locations such as Wallaman Falls and other iconic natural landmarks.

We’re looking for someone who is:

🌿 Fluent/confident in both German and English
🗣️ Comfortable translating for groups of up to approximately 30 people
🥾 Comfortable walking approximately 4km return
🚐 Happy spending the day travelling, walking and exploring with our guests
😊 Friendly, confident and comfortable speaking in front of a group

You would be supported throughout the day by our guide/driver, so previous tour guiding experience isn’t essential — being a confident German speaker and translator is the most important part.

Morning tea and lunch are included.

This could be a great opportunity for a German speaker living locally who enjoys nature, meeting people and exploring North Queensland.

And just like that… our weekend retreats are done & dusted for 2026! 🤍🌿

To every single person who supported, shared, booked, trusted us, showed up and became part of one of our retreats this year — thank you.

Retreats are still a relatively new part of Hidden Valley. They were something we slowly began introducing when we took over the business, and watching them grow into such a special — and now significant — part of what we do has been pretty incredible.

Every retreat has been different. Different themes, different people, different reasons for coming.

And there is SO much that goes into each one behind the scenes — the theme, activities, food, little details, timing and all those touches that we hope make you feel like everything has been thought of before you even arrive.

Now, we’re busy behind the scenes working on our 2027 Retreat Calendar 👀

There’s lots of planning, creating and fine-tuning happening before we release the dates, and we’re very excited about what’s coming.

🌿🐾 MINI RANGERS: POO, PRINTS & PAW TRACKS! 💩🐾

Well… we had a plan. We had a route.
But apparently Mother Nature had her own plan 😂🌿🌧️

Thankfully, our Mini Rangers were TRUE little rangers and absolute little warriors — in true Bear Grylls form:

“Improvise. Adapt. Overcome!” 😂

So, we headed back to the cabins, jumped in the cars and ventured out to a few spots we know usually have some pretty good poo activity 💩😂

And honestly… these kids were SO AMAZING!

When it came time to see if we could spot a platypus, they were all so incredibly quiet — watching, waiting and listening. For a group of excited Mini Rangers, they absolutely blew us away. 🥹💚

A HUGE thank you to all the mums, dads and grandparents who came along, jumped in and helped us with our little change of adventure. We couldn’t have asked for a better group!

Mini Rangers was sweet, adventurous and soooo cute — and, of course, POO was definitely the favourite word of the day! 😂💩
