The Aurora has been very active lately. We have seen a few strong displays this month. Here are some good spots to see the Aurora in Hobart and surrounding areas:

- Howrah Beach
- Tinderbox Beach
- Goat Bluff Lookout
- Howden Boat Ramp
- Seven Mile Beach

Quick Tips and FAQs
Where do I need to look? South!

How do I know where south is? Use a compass.

When does it happen? It occurs when there is a large solar flare on the sun’s surface. This can happen at any time of the year.

Can I forecast the Aurora? It’s not exact, but yes. Check the Aurora Australis Tasmania Facebook group for real-time alerts, and download the Aurora Forecast app to predict when an aurora is likely to occur in the next few days.

Can I see it with my eyes? Sometimes, if it is a really strong aurora. Most of the time in Tasmania, you will need a camera and tripod to capture the colours.

This hidden gem is just behind Salamanca Market—St. David’s Park. It’s absolutely beautiful right now. The lawn is covered with little white flowers, blooming in the spring. Various flowers are blooming throughout the park. It’s the perfect spot to relax after exploring Salamanca Market 🌴🍃🌸
