For as long as there's been a Hobart, the scallop boats have come in off the Channel — decks slick with salt water, crates packed with the sweetest catch in the Southern Ocean.
They'd land them a stone's throw from our front door.
Some things haven't changed.
Scallop Fest returns to Customs House Hotel this July and August. Two courses of fresh Tasmanian scallops and a drink to warm your hands around, for $50 a head. Chowder thick enough for a winter's night. Scallops crumbed, battered, folded through rigatoni, or baked under golden pastry.
The sea is calling. It always h as been.
Tables are filling for the weekend — book via the link in bio.
