Earlier this year, the proposed expansion of Tyrecycle's Bridgewater facility completed the environmental assessment process. The project will increase processing capacity from 5,000 to 10,000 tonnes per annum and support the manufacture of tyre-derived fuel products for local use.

As Tasmania's only licensed tyre recycling facility, the expansion will strengthen the state's capacity to recover and process waste materials locally, reducing reliance on landfill and interstate transport while creating new opportunities for recovered materials.

Era Advisory was proud to lead the environmental and planning approvals process, including the preparation of environmental assessment documentation and coordination of specialist assessments, helping progress an initiative that supports a more circular economy in Tasmania.

Projects like this demonstrate the important role that resource recovery infrastructure plays in creating long-term environmental and economic benefits for our communities.

Good planning supports more than buildings — it helps make essential services accessible to the people who need them.

We're pleased to have supported the planning approval process for the Tasmanian Lung Centre, a specialist healthcare facility providing respiratory and sleep services to Tasmanians.

While much of our work involves major developments, strategic plans and community engagement, projects like this highlight the important role planning also plays in enabling essential healthcare infrastructure and services.

Working closely with the project team, Era Advisory provided planning support to help navigate the approval process and facilitate the delivery of a purpose-built facility, strategically located and designed to support patients from across the state.

It's rewarding to contribute to projects that have a direct and lasting benefit for the community, helping improve access to specialist healthcare services for Tasmanians.

People often assume that new development will automatically erode the character of a place.

The reality is more nuanced.

Emma, Caroline and Grace had the opportunity to attend the Planning Institute Australia (PIA) Tasmanian Conference earlier this month in sunny Devonport!

PIA Conferences are always a great opportunity to reconnect with colleagues and learn from each other about how planning can contribute to making great communities.

The theme of the conference was focused on how we can deliver real outcomes for communities in Tasmania. This provided us with an opportunity to talk about a project the Era team loves, the West Coast Community Plan. Caroline presented on the importance of authentic engagement in facilitating a community plan which is vision informed, place based, and with clear and measurable actions for Council and the community to implement.

The Conference also saw Grace sit on a panel with other emerging planners to discuss their planning journeys so far, what they love about the profession, and the key learnings they have had as they have started their career.

The Era team is always keen to support PIA and the industry, and attending conferences is a way to continue learning, and contributing to sharing knowledge, with the fantastic community of Tasmanian planners.

Yesterday, the Era Advisory team came together to mark R U OK? Day, an important reminder of the role we can all play in supporting mental health and wellbeing.

We were grateful to hear from Cass Jones, who delivered a thoughtful and engaging presentation exploring the power of connection, the importance of listening, and practical approaches to supporting wellbeing. Thank you, Cass, for generously sharing your wisdom, warmth and insights with our team.

R U OK? Day shines an important spotlight on the power of checking in with the people around us and reminds us that a simple conversation can make a meaningful difference.

As the conversation continues beyond R U OK? Day, we can all play a part in creating supportive workplaces and communities by taking the time to connect, listen and look out for one another.

Say hello to Era Advisory's newest Environmental Consultant, Alex Hibberd.

Alex joins Era with more than five years' professional experience supporting environmental projects across Tasmania, including in the transport infrastructure, mining, waste management and renewable energy sectors.

Her experience includes preparing Environmental Effects Reports, Environmental Impact Statements, Reserve Activity Assessments and EPBC Act referrals, as well as supporting compliance and field-based investigations.

We're delighted to welcome Alex to the team and look forward to the contribution she will make across our projects and for our clients.

Planning for growth that respects place

We recently supported the preparation of a draft structure plan for the coastal townships of Scamander and Beaumaris, led by our Planning and Engagement teams.

Located on Tasmania’s east coast, Scamander and Beaumaris are close knit coastal communities experiencing renewed growth, with changing demographics and increasing seasonal tourism. Break O’Day Council engaged Era to provide strategic planning and community engagement services to help shape an evidence based direction for how these towns may evolve over the next 15 years.

Our approach focused on understanding what makes these communities distinctive. Through detailed place analysis, consideration of multiple growth scenarios and two rounds of targeted community engagement, we worked closely with Council, key stakeholders and locals to ensure the draft plan reflects how people live in, use and care for these towns.

The result strengthens Scamander’s role as the area’s activity and visitor hub, while protecting the landscapes and coastal systems that underpin local identity.

We were thrilled to see that this project received unanimous Council endorsement last week, highlighting our detailed approach and comprehensive community engagement as particular strengths. This project is a strong example of how tailored, place based planning grounded in local values, environmental context and practical implementation pathways can support confident decision making at both local and state levels.

Local centres are more than places to shop — they're places where communities connect.

We're pleased to have supported the planning scheme amendment process for the Spring Farm Village Centre in Kingston.

Located within a growing part of Kingborough, Spring Farm Village Centre has become an important destination for shopping, services and day-to-day needs. As communities evolve, centres like these play an increasingly important role in providing convenient access to goods and services close to where people live.

The amendment supports the continued evolution of the Village Centre, enabling additional commercial opportunities alongside the existing retail and business uses. It represents another step in the ongoing development of a centre that serves both the local community and the broader region.

Working closely with Kingborough Council, Era Advisory provided planning expertise to help navigate the statutory planning process and support a proposal aligned with the strategic intent for the precinct.

Projects like this demonstrate the role planning plays in creating vibrant, accessible and well-functioning centres that meet the changing needs of communities over time.

Late last month, Era Advisory's Renewables Lead, Suki, attended the 2026 Australian Clean Energy Summit in Sydney, joining industry leaders, policy makers, investors, First Nations representatives and clean energy professionals to explore the next phase of Australia's energy transition.

A strong theme throughout the summit was that delivering renewable energy projects is about much more than generation and transmission infrastructure. Successful projects rely on trust, strong partnerships, early and respectful engagement, meaningful benefit sharing, and a genuine commitment to the communities that host them.

Some of Suki's highlights included the Women in Renewables Lunch, which celebrated inclusive leadership and the importance of creating visible pathways for women across the sector; the First Nations session, which reinforced the need for Traditional Owners and First Nations communities to be recognised as rights-holders, partners and leaders in the transition; and a session on misinformation, which explored how transparency, credible information and respectful dialogue can help address community concerns.

Reflecting on the event, Suki's key takeaway was that social licence is not a separate workstream. It sits at the heart of project success. As the clean energy transition continues to accelerate, the way projects are planned, communicated and delivered will be just as important as the infrastructure itself.
