Due to the Stage 3 COVID-19 restrictions for the state of Victoria and the border closure with NSW, we have made the difficult decision to suspend lift operations at Hotham and Falls Creek, effective Thursday, 9 July through at least 19 August.

We recognise the impact this has on our guests, employees and communities and did not make this decision lightly. However, we are focused first and foremost on health and safety, following local health guidelines and doing our part to support efforts across Victoria to address the recent rise in coronavirus cases.

We will continue to assess the situation, follow the guidelines of the state health authorities in evaluating if it is advisable or feasible to reopen either resort this season. Perisher remains open and is unaffected by this decision.

All lift ticket, lesson and rental reservations at Hotham and Falls Creek will be refunded with no requirement for guests to contact us. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to navigate through this incredibly challenging time. Learn more here bit.ly/LiftOpsSuspended

More information being released

As you are aware, we face a challenging 2020 season in which we will need to change our processes to enable us to have a successful and, most importantly, safe season.

Our first challenge is implementing capacity management, which we will be doing from Friday 5 June in line with the government’s public health guidelines.

In response to a number of enquiries from people about being unable to purchase Resort Entry and ‘log/register your visit’ our system upgrades have taken a little longer than we anticipated but these are now being finalised. Day and multi day Resort Entry permits can now be purchased online. Season Permit holders will be able to ‘log/register your visit’ at approximately 10am today (Thursday 4th April).

We have also received many enquiries about Resort Entry Season Permits (Season Pass) and All Resorts passes, both of these have been suspended for this season. If we can release further Resort Entry Season Permits for sale, we will advise when they are available.

"Vail Resorts, which owns the lifts at Perisher in New South Wales and Falls Creek and Mount Hotham in Victoria, said it was "continuing to prepare for the 2020 winter season. We are closely monitoring the progress of Covid-19 in Australia and globally. As the season approaches, we will advise of any planned changes to resort operations.""

The Kiwis have a timetable for their ski season, but at Australian resorts, whether and when the ski lifts can start turning remains unknown.

Sorry - but just to get you thinking about the Aus winter ski season approaching we share some of our members photos taken today from Whistler Ski Resort in Canada.

Similar elevation as Hotham. Bottom of lifts 600 m elevation and top of ski area 2,200 m.

Another benefit of the Epic Australia Pass - which includes at no extra cost the likes of Whistler / Blackcomb. 🙂

We’ve been off the air for a few days and we apologise – along with all visitors and residents, Mount Hotham Alpine Resort Management Board staff were evacuated from the mountain on January 3 due to the bushfire threat.

Fortunately, despite some terrible conditions, a bit of luck and a lot of preparation by our amazing emergency services, RMB staff and locals mean that Hotham and Dinner Plain remain unscathed by the fires.

We extend our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the CFA, Forest Fire Managment Victoria our local firefighters and staff, Mount Hotham Skiing Company, the Australian Defence Force, Victoria Police and all those who support them. Their commitment and passion for our beautiful location is appreciated beyond measure. Thanks also to the incredible team at The Genny who stayed to keep the firefighting team fed and refreshed.

Summer still has a way to go, so we’ll keep you updated on conditions, but we’re stoked to advise that HOTHAM IS OPEN again, so we hope to see you soon. Come on up and enjoy our short local walks, our family-friendly activities and our hospitality.

Excellent!

Excellent!

As we head into Sunday we are happy to report that we have not experienced any damage in resort or at Dinner Plain through the significant fire activity yesterday. The cool change that came through last night has seen the threat ease for now.

A massive thank you is deserved for the CFA team that have done such a wonderful job working to prepare and secure the resort and Dinner Plain.
Fires remain active nearby and the immediate threat remains at both Dinner Plain and Hotham Airport. Access to Hotham remains closed. It will be a challenging period ahead for all that are connected with Hotham and Dinner Plain. We will continue to work with the CFA and all resort stakeholders to prepare and secure Hotham for further fire threats so we can protect both resort assets and our community over the coming weeks.
Our thoughts are with the communities of Cobungra and Omeo that sadly suffered loses yesterday.

Thank you for the huge amount of messages that have been coming through.
