Be sure to visit some big trees when you visit The Valley in southern . Stay a few nights in a self contained eco cabin or luxury BnB. More info at https://www.huonvalleyescapes.net/accommodation.html
WHOPPER BUT CACTUS. Why do we love Tasmania’s big trees? Because we have so few left and we keep loosing them to fire and logging. We regularly see people sharing historical photos of big burnt dead trees in Victoria. The sad thing is that in Tasmania we’re loosing our giants now, not 100 years ago.
We just hope that by sharing the big tree love with you that you too might be as inspired as we are by them. If people know and care the more hearts, minds and hands there are to protect them.
We’re off to climb a 92ish metre tree about 800m from this one on the weekend. A bit excited because it’s one of just a handful of trees that tall that still has a healthy top. We’ll drop a tape and wrap it to get the volume. There is a good chance that it’ll be a very rare specimen to both be 85m+ and 280m3. We’ll also do a photogrammetry scan of the tree and creat a 3D model of it to validate our tape measurements, also cos it’s cool.
