📍 Mirray Lookout | Take this short, steep climb and you’ll be rewarded with a spectacular 360 degree view of the north of the park. The lookout shelter is surrounded by trees, but it still gives you an appreciation of the grandeur that is Kakadu.

Set out early in the morning - especially in the build up (the pre-monsoon season) October - November and the hot days of the tropical wet season. A great walk if you have extra time in the Burrungkuy (Nourlangie) area, or for anyone who enjoys a more challenging hike.

Caring for Country starts with all of us. 💚

In Kakadu, Country is more than the landscape. It encompasses the land, waters, plants, animals, skies, spirits, stories and people - everything is connected through thousands of years of culture and knowledge.

Kakadu National Park is jointly managed by Traditional Owners and Parks Australia, combining ancient knowledge with modern conservation practices. One example is the use of traditional patchwork burning, which helps protect ecosystems, reduce the risk of large bushfires and care for Country for future generations.

As you explore this remarkable place, you can help care for Country too:
🌿 Take nothing, leave nothing – preserve Kakadu's natural and cultural treasures.
🦘 Don't feed the wildlife – let native animals stay wild and healthy.
💧 Prepare and take care of yourself – carry water, stay on marked tracks and plan ahead.
🚧 Respect site closures – they're in place to protect both visitors and Country.

Every small action helps protect Kakadu's unique landscapes, wildlife and living culture for generations to come.

Experience a variety of Kakadu’s habitats on a stroll between the world-famous Crocodile Hotel and the award-winning Bowali Visitor Centre. The walk takes you through open tropical woodlands and across Bowali Creek. It’s best done in the early morning when you’ll hear a variety of birds along the track.

Once at Bowali Visitor Centre, check out the displays and ask the friendly and knowledgeable staff for their tips on exploring the park 👌🏼

One of our favourite things about staying in Jabiru during the dry season is how close you are to Kakadu's free seasonal guided program. From now until 18 September 2026, Bininj/Mungguy rangers are running free guided experiences across the park - rock art tours at Burrungkuy (Nourlangie), the Nawurlandja sunset walk, weaving workshops, crocodile talks and storytelling sessions. It's a genuinely special way to connect with Country, led by the people whose culture it is.

If you're staying with us at The Croc, ask our team which sessions are running while you're here - we're happy to help you plan your days around them.
