A fledgling magpie that was freezing on the ground this morning. Bought it to the house for some food and warmth, and when it got opinionated about being in the washing basket, I put it back up in the tree it came out of.

My 600lbs life's spirit animal.

Squeezed herself out of her paddock (how??) And made her way to the hay. Getting busted, she refused to be caught, leading me on a slow but very determined pursuit around the sheds, house, horse trailer, with a special 'peek a boo' show amongst the hay bales.

I had to lock her in the arena for 3 hours to calm down.

This is the face I got taking her back to the diet paddock.

We have an enthusiastic new farm dog, Pepper.
Pepper is tiny, and senior, but that hasn't stopped her taking to farm life like its her destiny!

She's still learning the ropes with stock, but she did successfully stop 4 goats going through an open gate, quite an achievement for something smaller than a cat. Unfortunately I wanted the goats through the gateway, so there's a bit of work to do there 😂

I hope you have wondered how Benedict (the lamb we found badly injured driving into town) is doing, and I thought I would share a video of how he spends his days.

Bene had it tougher than anyone I know, even Hugo and Juliette. The amount of bite wounds that got infected was mind boggling. I know lambs can be pretty resilient, but Bene took it to a level I didn't even know about. He was on daily antibiotics for about a month, then I just let it be, knowing it would either resolve itself or it wouldn't.

He continued to have abscesses purge, always from different injuries, and I wondered a couple of times if I had made the wrong decision trying to get him through it. The line between helping and harming is so, so fine with injured animals.

However, despite my misgivings, and always the day after I thought it was hopeless, they improve.
Bene will never have a functioning knee. I could see that from the minute I caught him in the paddock, but it's not slowing him down too much now. And he is one of the most beautiful natured people here. 💛🐑

Teaching a blind goat to use a feeder was one of the most testing things ive done in a long time. I really thought he would get it first, given he has to 'feel' his way around everything, but he decided there was no feed in it, and that was that.
I tried applesauce, nope.
I tried molasses, I just ended up with molasses in my hair.
I then stuffed the thing full of apples, and after 2 days of that, today he finally got it.

Last week I installed a 'bene-cam' to capture the culprit eating their enormous night feed of pellets and chaff. Its more than Astec the giant horse gets after all, there's no way 2 lambs could eat it.

And catch the culprits I certainly did. I was dismayed and shocked to see who it was.

It was them. Bene and Geri eat every bit put out for them. Infact they have nearly eaten my weight in pellets since they arrived 😂
