A lovely nod to our beautiful property and town! 🫶
The name of this home is “Gwandoban”, which means “place of rest” in an Aboriginal dialect from Gippsland, Victoria. It was built in 1911 by David Lacey Jones, the grandson of the founder of the David Jones department stores.
We now call it Kilkivan Homestead given the style of house and vibe - although it’s not the original Kilkivan Homestead that was built up the road many years ago.
There is so much history to this town. We just love it and feel so lucky to welcome guests into the region to enjoy it!
Kilkivan Homestead around 1920.
House + land + family + modern automobile. Living the dream!
Kilkivan is a small rural town in the Gympie region, and pastoral riches aside, gold was discovered nearby in 1852 helping to spark a gold rush to that region in the 1850s.
This house still stands today.
