A lovely nod to our beautiful property and town! 🫶

The name of this home is “Gwandoban”, which means “place of rest” in an Aboriginal dialect from Gippsland, Victoria. It was built in 1911 by David Lacey Jones, the grandson of the founder of the David Jones department stores.

We now call it Kilkivan Homestead given the style of house and vibe - although it’s not the original Kilkivan Homestead that was built up the road many years ago.

There is so much history to this town. We just love it and feel so lucky to welcome guests into the region to enjoy it!

Kilkivan Homestead around 1920.
House + land + family + modern automobile. Living the dream!
Kilkivan is a small rural town in the Gympie region, and pastoral riches aside, gold was discovered nearby in 1852 helping to spark a gold rush to that region in the 1850s.
This house still stands today.

If you listen closely, you can hear the history of this house.

The original pressed metal ceilings, handcrafted archways and historic fireplace are the perfect spot to sip on a glass of red wine in the 115-year-old dining room.

There’s just something about colonial architecture ✨

When the vibes are good!

One of the things our guests tell us they love most about staying at Kilkivan Homestead is having a moment for a glass of red, with the sound of a crackling fire in the background, and time to take in the little details of our dining room.

The pressed metal ceilings, the decorative arch ways, the expansive stained glass windows - there is plenty to gaze at ✨
