Where the River Murray meets the Southern Ocean lies one of South Australia’s most breathtaking wilderness areas. The Coorong National Park is a landscape of endless lagoons, towering golden sand dunes, saltwater and freshwater ecosystems, and incredible birdlife, offering unforgettable sunsets, walking trails and a true connection with nature. Whether you’re exploring by foot, kayak or boat, the Coorong is a destination that showcases the wild beauty of South Australia.

The Coorong National Park is one of Australia’s most spectacular natural treasures, stretching for more than 130 km from the mouth of the River Murray near Goolwa to Kingston SE.
The park is a haven for more than 200 bird species recorded, including pelicans, black swans, migratory shorebirds, and many species of ducks and waders. It’s also an important habitat for fish, reptiles and native plants.

The Coorong is rich in Aboriginal cultural heritage and has deep significance to the Ngarrindjeri, who have cared for this Country for thousands of years.

Popular activities include:
• 🚶 Walking along scenic boardwalks and coastal trails.
• 🛶 Kayaking and canoeing through the tranquil lagoons.
• 📸 Wildlife and landscape photography.
• 🏕️ Camping at designated campgrounds.
• 🚤 Exploring sections of the Coorong by boat.

If you’re visiting for a day from Adelaide, many people stop in Meningie for breakfast or lunch before heading into the park, then spend the rest of the day exploring the boardwalks, lookouts and lagoons.

At Meningie you’ll find cafés, a bakery, supermarket, hotel, takeaway shops and fuel. Popular options include Freshies Café and Breeze Cafe, which is well known for its coffee, homemade treats and fresh Coorong mullet.

Kingston SE at the southern end also has cafés, restaurants, bakeries, supermarkets and accommodation.

It’s been a busy winter season for the team at the park - we’ve been making a few changes which has been exciting - Our Ensuite Cabins have been relocated and renovated within the park and will now be pet friendly! We also had our brand new cabin arrive which will have 3 self contained studio rooms with balconies over looking the ocean! We can’t wait for our guests to be enjoying Kingston sunsets in these rooms - here’s some progress photos - should be completed in the next few months for Spring 😀

From above, you really get a feel for just how special Kingston SE is, wide open spaces, ocean views and one of the best spots in South Australia to slow down for a while.

Early mornings, salty air and a line in the water. 🎣

There’s something pretty special about beach fishing along the Kingston coastline especially when you’ve got the whole beach to yourself.
