Did you know Wunan Foundation and Lily Lagoon Resort belong to the same family?

A few years ago, this resort didn't exist. What existed was an idea — that hospitality in Kununurra could look different. That a resort could be more than a place to sleep, and could actually change something for the people who work there.

That idea is ours. We're Wunan Foundation, an Aboriginal-led organisation that's spent years working across the East Kimberley — in health, housing, education, employment — making sure Aboriginal people here have real opportunities to build the lives they want. And we're Lily Lagoon Resort, one of the ways that work shows up in the everyday. Not a report, not a statistic — a place you can actually walk into, with a team you can actually meet.

Our team is local. Some came through our own training and employment programs, learning hospitality from the ground up, right here in their own community. Every one of them is part of the reason a stay here feels different — not because we're trying to sell you a feeling, but because it's genuinely how we run.

And every booking plays a small part in this story too. Profits from Lily Lagoon go straight back into our programs — the same ones that helped build the team welcoming you at check-in.

So when people ask what makes us different from anywhere else to stay in Kununurra, this is the honest answer: we're not separate from this community. We are this community.

Travis spends weeks away from home at a time, running ClearStory Co, where he helps leaders and teams work through the hard stuff underneath the surface — the tension, the stuck conversations, the things that don't get said. That kind of work takes something out of you.

What he's found at Lily Lagoon is that it's the small, thoughtful details that make the difference — made by our own team, local people, many part of our community employment program, genuinely invested in making his time here feel like more than just a stay.

Moments like this make it all worth it. 🧡 So proud of Shavanna and the amazing work happening behind the scenes. Thank you for celebrating our team! 🙌

Lily Lagoon Resort Kununurra has always been known for some of the best coffee in town… but last Sunday, our coffee got even better! ☕️

Shavanna, the one with the friendly, slightly cheeky smile all our regulars know, stepped up and ran the show as head barista for the day.

She’s handled quieter breakfasts before, but a busy Sunday morning? That was next level. And she absolutely smashed it!

Shavanna has been part of our RJED program and working Front of House with us for almost a year. A massive shout-out to Ari, who has patiently taught, trained and encouraged her the whole way. What a team!

Shavanna is now starting to mentor newer RJED participants and has even asked to learn the ropes in reception, adding more skills to her employment toolkit.

These are the moments that make us incredibly proud at Lily Lagoon.
