Commander of traffic. Owner of all roads.

Truthfully, I don't like to see cassowaries anywhere near the road. So when one steps out, hazards go on and everybody waits.

We all have a cassowary story, what's your latest?

Some laws are written. Some are just understood. Tropical life requires outdoor bathing.

Mine was tucked in among the heliconias, and it was the best part of the whole property. This was our ONLY shower for about 7 years. Summer, winter, rain and cyclone - we all showered outside.

We're currently rebuilding it to make it easier to maintain and longer lasting.

We are not the same

We've been renovating so long that people don't ask how it's going anymore 😂

When we first moved in we painted the walls white and laid grey vinyl flooring 🤮It was practical. We had a baby and two huge dogs and zero experience renovating a house.

Fast forward a decade and Jasper hits. We had a bit of damage and started to build an extension. Once we started envisioning how it will look, we decided we hated the "practical" house we'd originally put together.

A little bit impulsively, we gutted the rest of the house with no forward plan on how long it was going to take.

The bright side is that we've tweaked the plans so many times that the plan feels good now.

Here's me crashing out over seeing the local cassowary dad, aptly named 'Dad', for the first time this season.
I've never seen cassowary chicks so small.

I'll say it over and over again. Visiting Kuranda for only a day trip shows you nothing of the real magic of Kuranda. This is one the airbnbs I manage at the top of the range.
