A few of the little treasures around Stonewood 🤎

One of the things I love most about this home is the mix of old and new, and having things around that have a story of their own.

The antique hat box my Mum found for me when I was a teenager, back when I had a rather grand fantasy of being a lady of the English countryside, with a house full of hats and big flowing dresses (still do 😉)

The beautiful old wooden chest that Mum bought me years ago, which had definitely seen better days until Dad lovingly restored it and lined it with beautiful paper. I often wonder what it held before it found its way to me.

And the little countryside sketch I found in an antique shop in Kyneton when I was setting up Stonewood. A little worn, a little imperfect, and somehow all the more beautiful for it. It reminds me so much of the Macedon Ranges during hay season.

Then there are the old family photographs, including my husband’s grandparents, who were born and bred in Kyneton.
So much of Stonewood is a little nod to them and to the strong connection our family has with this town.

I love that even though Stonewood isn’t our home, it still feels like one
filled with pieces that have had a life, a journey and a story before they arrived here.

And I hope, when guests walk through the door, they feel a little of that too.

An early morning turn around today, after saying goodbye to our lovely guests who’ve spent the week at Stonewood before heading home to Queensland.

And just look at her…

The first blossoms have arrived, popping against the old stone and a very grey September morning. There’s something about those first signs of spring, a little promise of warmer days, longer afternoons and everything coming back to life.

It really is such a beautiful time to be in the country.

And Stonewood is looking rather lovely right now.
