June Fishing Report from East Gippsland Visitor Information Centre.
LAKES ENTRANCE - Good sized flathead are hiding along the sandy banks chasing soft plastics. Nice sized salmon are being landed off Eastern Beach with hard plastics. In amongst the weeds around Flannigan's Island for luderick and there have been reports that there are still some prawns in the system. But you had better be quick!
LAKE TYRES- Big black bream are smashing dark‑coloured plastics and hardbodies. Large flathead are also throughout the lake system, liking hard bodied lures and plastics. Off the surf beach for salmon.
MITCHELL RIVER- Mulloway can be found from Shadoof Lodge to the Dog Hole on vibes and hard bodies. Bream from the Grassy Banks to the Two Bells, with local prawn and live sandworm, the odd flathead is around as well.
TAMBO RIVER - Bream are around the mouth of the river taking cut crab, live sandworm, and local prawn.
NICHOLSON - Decent sized flathead biting on soft plastics and blue bait are around the Highway Bridge and Railway Bridge. Bream can be found from the Swimming Hole up to the Car Bodies, give live sandworm and local prawn a go. Mulloway can be found in the river as well.
METUNG - Steady catches of bream, particularly in slow-moving patches of water using drifting soft plastics is working well. Try around structures with small hard body crankbaits as well. The odd whiting is being caught at the Drop Off at Nungurner, with pippies and live sandworm.
PAYNESVILLE/HOLLANDS LANDING - Bream are biting around the boat ramps and jetties at Paynesville, using mussel, local prawn, and sandworm. Newlands Arm also have bream around the jetties biting on sandworm and shrimp. Give the mouth of Tom’s Creeks a go for bream and The Straits for the odd mulloway chasing lures.
MARLO - As the weather cools, salmon are on the move, with decent landings along the Ninety Mile Beach. Metal spoons and pilchards are giving great results, especially early morning and late afternoons.
BEMM RIVER - The entrance is open. Soft plastics seem to be the preferred bait for bream at the moment, flathead are around the inlet and in the channel, using lures and plastics. Over at the surf beach, salmon are chasing poppers and blue bait.
MALLACOOTA- Big Kingfish are still roaming through chasing yakkas and squid. Give the shallow edges a try for flathead and pinkies and the deeper water for quality gummy shark on fresh oily baits. Squid are also plentiful.
HIGH COUNTRY - The Dartmouth Cup Fishing Classic returns over the King’s Birthday long weekend, set against the stunning backdrop of Dartmouth Dam. Over three days, anglers target rainbow and brown trout with live weigh ins. There will also be a carp category.
