Camp Site Information

AN INTRODUCTION TO THE CAMP SITE
The campsite takes in an area of 120 acres (48.5 hectares), of this nearly 100 acres are preserved as natural bush and wildlife habitat. The natural bush would be best described as tea tree (paperbark) country, and is very flat with low ridges and shallow gullies. This makes bush w

alking easy going and very enjoyable. Numerous walking tracks criss-cross the area and are used for orienteering, bush walking, nature studies etc. The northern boundary is Rocky Creek, which is a "ribbon of rainforest" and has many varieties of palms, large trees and bamboo (not to be felled). There is a dam and two consecrated chapel sites for everyone to use. There are six bush campsites and various other established campsite areas closer to the main development area. All campsites have mains pressure town water supply on tap. There are two separate accommodation buildings, more being renovated, and a masonry block ablutions building, with gas hot water, septic toilets and hand basins. Male and female toilets and showers for the disabled are also available. All buildings have mains power for lighting and ample power points are provided. Campfire drums are provided for use on the developed campsites, any dead wood on the ground only may be used. All this is set in a semi-rural environment, yet it is only a 30 minute walk from the Landsborough rail and shops and only about 2 km from world famous Australia Zoo. Many groups take advantage of the train service and hike into camp from the station about (2.5km). UPON ARRIVAL:
Make sure you have booked and paid your camp fees before arrival (although it's a huge campsite, some busy periods may result in being disappointed if you haven't booked and paid). When entering the front gate, a large car park is on the right for your use. On arrival please stop at the camp Caretakers house and they will direct you to your campsite or building. Responsibility for the building and contents is then taken by the leaders. Fridges will be going when you arrive and clean sheets can be supplied. Hot water will be on and automatic lighting on in the ablution

LOCATION:
The campsite is located on Old Gympie Road. From the township of Landsborough (after crossing over the railway line) go straight ahead along the Maleny/Landsborough Rd and take the second road on the left (at the roundabout) - Gympie St South. Go along this road about 2kms and you will cross over the causeway at Rocky Creek and we are the next driveway on your left. The Camp is in the centre of the magnificent Glasshouse Mountains and our beautiful surf beaches. Why not base yourself at the camp during your holiday on the Sunshine Coast. They shall grow not old,
as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them,
nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun
and in the morning
We will remember them.

Lest we forget.

ATTN ALL:

Tomorrow (Wednesday 3rd of Sept) Rocky creek is hosting a Rural Fire service training day onsite.

This will include multiple trucks and other RFS vehicles arriving onsite throughout the day. There will also be sections of the campsite used as burn areas as a part of a training exercise.
This could create smoke and a smoke haze from mid morning through to the afternoon/evening.

This exercise will be run by the Rural fire service and all burn areas will be monitored closely.

Given that we have had significant amounts of rain, the exact location where the burns/fire training exercises will happen will be determined when RFS members arrive onsite tomorrow. Below is a map highlighted of areas that MAY be utilised.

Please remember that Rocky Creek Scout Camp is private property and no unauthorised persons are allowed onsite at any time, but especially during times like this. Any Unauthorised persons found onsite will be reported for trespassing.

As always if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact my directly either via Facebook messenger or on 0428 994 764.

Thanks for understanding

- Rach 😏

A big BRAVO to our district commissioner and a key person in the smooth operations of our campsite, Rob Cullen for being featured as this weeks Glasshouse Greats!

To all our neighbours, local communities, scouting families, friends and well just everyone in SE QLD and northern NSW.

Stay safe during the lead up, crossing and aftermath of Alfred. Remember if it's flooded forget it, and stay inside unless you absolutely have to leave due to emergency reasons. Theres is usually more injuries post cyclones than during one.

We are stronger when we stand together and support each other than we are apart. Remember to check in on your friends and family, and keep your pets safe and close by. Also remember our wildlife get easily disoriented by weather events like this too, so whilst some of us still have internet and power maybe take note on contacts of some local wildlife rescue groups.

If it's an emergency call 000
for non life threatening assistance
call the SES on 132500
For animal emergencies call the
RSPCA on 1300 264 625

The ABC radio will be continuing coverage and emergency broadcasting on the following:
Brisbane 612AM
Gold Coast 91.7FM
Sunshine Coast 90.3FM and 95.3FM

The campsite will remain closed to any and all general public until we have done a complete site evaluation after Alfred has well and truly disappeared. Remember all our campsite staff are volunteers and we will all be focusing on our own families during this time. Most of us are also in the Rural fire service and will be volunteering wherever we may be needed after Alfred so please if we haven't answered your emails or phone calls be patient and I will get back to you when business is back to normal.

For any major concerns please reach out to me through Facebook messenger (hoping that we will still have range) and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Again stay safe, and hopefully your children haven't already almost eaten all their Cyclone snacks like mine have 🙄 (and a teenage son with no food is 100% a scarier thought than the Cyclone 😂)
