This frame has been replanted with fresh succulents. The frame is constructed from 100 year recyled timber, given to us by a local farmer to use for our creations.

Many of my photos are a case of just happening to be at the right place at the right time, other photos of mine are much more carefully planned and have taken repeated attempts to get the photo.

This photo was an idea I got when I first visited Balingup Tree Park in 2009, I had to work out when all the elements I needed would align. It took until 2016 before I finally managed to get the photo that I was happy with. There are only a few nights per year where this photo is potentially possible.

To get this photo I needed: the new moon (when the stars are brightest and the sky is darkest) to line up with the tree's leaves changing colour, but before it had dropped all its leaves, I needed clear skies, which can be difficult at this time of year (early May) as it is coming into our wet season and this area frequently gets fog.

The first few years I tried it were failures because of rain, storms and fog. In 2016, it was foggy when I left home, but I decided to get try the photo anyway, when I got to Balingup Tree Park, it was foggy, but then a breeze came through and cleared the fog for me!

The foreground was lit with my headtorch for the last 5-10 seconds of the exposure.

Minimal processing on this one, just pulled the highlights down a little and bumped the shadows up, minor contrast adjustments too, zero saturation added.
