About Ben Lomond

Ben Lomond Ski field Area is Tasmania's Premier ski resort that offers spectacular alpine scenery within the Ben Lomond National Park.

The Alpine Village is located at the foot of the of the ski slopes and there are toboggan and snow play areas, downhill and cross country skiing and snowboarding.

The Ben Lomond Ski field area provides an affordable family friendly winter experience for the beginner to intermediate users. The winter season usually starts around the beginning of July and closes late September.

Ben Lomond National Park covers an area of 16,527 hectares (40,772 acres), and boasts the island's second-highest peak, Legges Tor, which is 1,572 metres (5,147 feet) above sea level. The village road is the highest in Tasmania and at its end reaches an elevation of 1460 metres.

How to get here
The Ski field Area is reached via the C401 from Launceston. Allow about 1 hour 20 minutes travel time from Launceston or allow 3.5 hours from Hobart via the Midlands Heritage Highway.

The alpine village is 18 kilometres from the main road turnoff; the upper section of the road is subject to ice and snow. To that end vehicles are required to carry chains and fit them if directed. Chains are not available on the mountain but can be rented in Launceston at Autobarn (03 6334 5601) or Skigia in Hobart (03 6234 6688).

If travelling to the mountain by car there are car parking facilities available. Whether you have a 2 or 4 wheel drive you MUST carry chains during the season.

Fuel is not available on the mountain.

Park Entry Fees
As the area is in a Tasmanian National Park there is a Park Entry Fee that is applicable when entering any National Park in Tasmania. This fee can be paid on entry at the Ben Lomond registration booth, or pre purchased at any Service Tasmania Outlet in the State. Please check on Parks & Wildlife Service website for details.

Transport to Ben
Being only 1 hour 20 minutes from Launceston it is an easy drive.

This year Ben Lomond Snow Sports have two shuttle buses that are located on the mountain 24/7. We collect from the bottom car park at the Parks and Wildlife Service registration booth and can deliver you to the car park at the base of the boardwalk. Just call us on 6390 6185 from the bus stop and we will be down to collect you; most mobile phones work from that area.

If you are catching the shuttle you do not need to hire chains. If you require other transport options please call us on 6390 6185 or 0427 318 984 and we will see what can be arranged.
