Be sure to stop for a visit.

If you're passing by in June/July, you may be lucky enough to find the volunteer run Underground Bakery open and have yourself a good feed. All proceeds go towards the restoration of the local township.

Witchelina is located 26kms west of the ghost town of Farina on the Mulgaria Station Rd. The Former Cattle Station (which incorporates the former Old Mount Nor West, Myrtle Springs & Ediacra Stations) is a Nature Reserve under the management of Nature Foundation SA.

Through active management they are reducing the impact of a number of threatening processes, primarily focusing on total grazing pressure and predation. Total grazing pressure is a combination of the impact caused by herbivores, both introduced and native as well as feral and domestic, on native vegetation.

Nature Foundation SA has removed all domestic livestock and the majority of feral goats. managing total grazing pressure also includes tackling the degradation caused by rabbits, and monitoring the numbers of macropods.

Reducing predation pressure exerted on native wildlife by cats and foxes is an important management consideration if native populations are to breed and remain viable into the future. Nature Foundation has been implementing a thorough fox and cat control program since 2012.

Nature Foundation SA funds research projects into the flora and fauna of this landscape, to better understand how we can Save, Protect and Restore this diverse and unique habitat.

Glass Gorge Road - Parachilna Gorge

A short 45 minute drive from Leigh Creek & you're in Parachilna Gorge. A stunning drive along the dry creek beds of the Northern Flinders Ranges, full of wildlife such as Emu's, Wedge Tail Eagles, Red & Western Grey Kangaroo's, Euro's, Yellow Footed Rock Wallabies, Mallee Ringneck parrots and quirky Apostlebird. Other birdlife in the gorges include Pink and Grey galahs, Corellas, Rainbow bee-eaters, the Elegant parrots and the Red-capped robins.

Flinders Ranges is the largest mountain range in South Australia and one of the most ancient environments on the planet. The oldest evidence for animal life on earth was found fossilized here, suggesting that animals may have been present on earth at least 70 million years earlier than previously thought.

Free camping in designated campsites is available in Parachilna Gorge.

NOTE: Please don't camp outside of the designated areas or collect firewood. Fines do apply.
