Hello FilmClub believers, raisin eaters, Caesars, and rained out Radio Springers, We give a nod and an index finger raised on the steering wheel to the Venice Film Festival this week. Our (small) selection of Venice celluloid classics brings us certain quality here. Thurs 3rd and Mon 7th Sept at 7:15pm we have found a glorious 35mm print of Ian McKellen’s brilliant RICHARD III which screened in 1995 Venice Film Festival. (Did you know that the actor Benedict Cumberbatch, who is not in this film, is related to RICHARD III?).
Fri 4th Sept at 7:15pm brings Orson Welles atmospheric Gothic tragedy MACBETH which screened at Venice in 1948. Made in 23days, it’s an amazingly bold atmospheric exploration of Shakespearean cinema. Bring your own haggis and neeps.
7:15pm Sun night 6th Sept brings the 80th anniversary Venice screening of Rossellini’s neo-realism classic PAISAN. Alfred Hayes was nominated for an Academy Award for his performance. Fellini worked as one of the screenwriters and was also assistant director. Bar opens for drinks from 6:00pm and yes you can bring your own food. some rare film noir, A Rita Hayworth birthday celebration with two of her best pictures, GILDA , it’s 80th anniversary screening and the Orson Welles classic THE LADY FROM SHANGHAI.

Hello FilmClub celebrities, calamities, cool cats and indubitably red hot and radiant Radio Springers, Just a reminder that there are NO screenings for this week, Thurs 27thAug to Mon 31stAug at The Henri Langlois Screening Room. Looking forward to the following week with our nod to the Venice Film Festival with some fantastic classic retro celluloid slated… COMING SOON, we’re bringing back Welles’MACBETH (no haggis for you!), Rossellini’s 80th Anniversary of his neo realism classic, PAISAN. Also Ian McKellen’s incredible work of the Bard in jackboots, RICHARD III. This interpretation transposed to the1930’s could easily be described as now… (How soon is…).

Helloooo MIFFerites, FilmClubees and Rampaging Radio Springers all..,
With the final week of MIFF rolling out around Melbourne and regional centres, THE ODYSSEY in 15/70mm breaking records at IMAX as well as The Astor Theatre St Kilda, The Rivoli Camberwell and The Sun Theatre Yarraville all screening THE ODYSSEY in 5/70mm film format, there is much to celebrate celluloid screenings in Melbourne town. The Henri Langlois Screening Room at The Radio Springs Hotel Lyonville adds to this experience with some fantastic retroMIFF pictures of both past screenings and current events from MIFF. YASAK ,(35mm), an awesome award winning Danish period drama starring Mads Mikkelsen. This screens Thurs 20th Aug and Mon 24th Aug at 7:15pm. We take a nod to the MIFF KIM NOVAK retrospective with PUSHOVER (her first film) and 5 AGAINST THE HOUSE as a double feature presentation. These screen Fri 21st Aug and Sun 23rd Aug at 7:15pm. Bar opens for drinks at 6:00pm and yes, you can bring your own food. We screen fortnightly and am looking forward to our Venice Film Festival retrospective.. with a nod to some “modern interpretation” of Shakespeare, Orson Welles and an 80th anniversary Rossellini rarity. Hello fabbo FilmClub fans, Sunday 9th Aug night @7:15pm we sing a quick “happy birthday”to Alfred Hitchcock and get to screen two of his films,
MR & MRS SMITH (RKO) plus THE LODGER, one of his last British silent films. Our Monday night 10th Aug at 7:15pm is the final screening of the Japanese punk comedy,THE CRAZY FAMILY. (35mm).Bar opens for drinks at 6:00pm and celluloid rolls at 7:15pm. Our kitchen is closed. Yes you can bring your own food. Please note that we will be screening FORTNIGHTLY when we continue our RETRO MIFF series. Hello FilmClub fanatics, Henri Langlois Screening Room zoomers and Radio Springer friends, viewers and fans, Tonight Sunday night 7th June at 7:15pm we have a wonderful double feature program, 1944 RKO Rene Clair picture THIS LAND IS MINE starring Charles Laughton and Maureen O’HARA plus MAN ALIVE with Adolphe Menjou and Pat O’Brien. “A supernatural “ comedy.
A reminder that the FINAL screening of The Directors Cut of DAS BOOT in 35mm screens this Monday night 8th June at 7:15pm.
Bar opens at 6:00pm,celluloid rolling at 7:15pm. Yes bring your own food. (Our kitchen is closed). After our DAS BOOT screening we will be taking a short intermission to go vault diving re-starting in early August with some great features.
