Sometimes it's what you don't see that counts.

I love fencing, it's one of those jobs where you leave at the end of the day knowing, and feeling like you have accomplished something significant. And when the job is finished, there is a massive sense of pride leaving behind a fence that looks great, is stock proof, and knowing it is going to last well into the future.

But sometimes it's the small things, and the unseen things that defines a great fence from an ordinary fence. Things like, 2 coats of paint on my welds, belling out post holes so the concrete won't lift, and flaring or cleating the post ends so they won't pull out of the concrete. Also the wire knots, proper figure 8 knots to join wire, and real termination knots on strainers, that won't unravel if hit by a beast at speed, or loose ringer.

Ok, I have been a bit slack on the "keeping social media updated" front lately. I did have a heap of fencing repairs on the go, which don't make for very good photos. But, here is a recently completed paddock subdivision near Ravenshoe, where the customer required steel end assemblies and start pickets, due to the high likelihood of fire. Because of their horses, we went with four strands of high tensile 2.5mm plain wire, which will keep their cattle in too.

Gibberellic Acid

Always on the lookout to improve pasture growth through winter, I have trialled Gibberellic Acid this year. Although it looks like a pretty amateurish spraying job, I purposefully sprayed wider, to give a visual comparison of sprayed and unsprayed grass.
Results so far show an increase in Ryegrass and Setaria growth, though the Setaria looks like it might be going to flower, which isn't desirable. There appears to be no effect on the Brachi. But it's only been 3 weeks since grazing, so things could alter before the next grazing.

Safe way out.
I don't mind taking the tractor on a bit of a slope, I grew up driving tractors on hill country, but there has to be a safe way out. It's pretty hard to visualise how steep this wee hill is, but I was totally comfortable driving down it, even though the tractor got a bit slidy just after this.🤣🤣

🏠 Another wee building job that I am currently in the middle of, replacing an old tarp wall with this colour bond wall, made to suit the existing house. It's not finished yet, I still have another wall to complete, after the roller door installers have completed their bit. Heap more secure, and hopefully it will keep the snakes out. 🐍

Here's a fence recently completed at Walkamin. It was the continuation and completion of an already half built fence using repurposed corrugated iron.
