Look who’s out looking for something to eat! Meet the yoorna, our south-west bobtail 🦎

A few fun facts about these lovely locals:

🔹 That stumpy tail looks stores fat for leaner times.
🔹 They’re loyal. Pairs often reunite every spring, some for 20+ years.
🔹 They give birth to live young, usually 1 to 3 big babies in late summer.
🔹 They love a snail, so they’re welcome garden helpers.
🔹 The blue tongue and hiss are all bluff. They’re harmless.

Spring is mating season, so keep an eye out for them during your stay. We have 6 regular resident yoorna at SurfPoint Resort.
If you’re driving around Margaret River, please slow down and give them right of way 💙

🌏 We did it! SurfPoint Resort is a global winner. 🏆 We’re incredibly proud to share that SurfPoint Resort has won the Accommodation, Food & Hospitality Services category at the 2026 Skål International Sustainable Tourism Awards, presented at the Skål International World Congress in Gqeberha, South Africa. 🇦🇺🇿🇦

This is our first global sustainability award, and it belongs to so many people. To our team, who live and breathe low-impact hospitality every day. Our parent company Cape to Cape Explorer Tours who partner with us to reduce their tour impacts on our environment. To the Wardandi elders, whose teachings guide how we care for this Country. To our community partners, our guests, and everyone who has walked this journey with us.

From protecting Gnarran (western ringtail possum) habitat to reducing our energy and water footprint, sustainability at SurfPoint has never been about a trophy. It’s about building today for tomorrow. 🌿
