We love doggies and understand that a holiday isn't complete without them! Bring them along to your next Margaret River break...

If this is what your summer goals look like - you've come to the right place! πŸΆπŸ’¦

We absolutely love doggies in our region, and have plenty of awesome beaches, parks, wineries, breweries, restaurants, and cafes - even wine tours - that welcome four-legged friends as part of the family.

However, you might've noticed that a large part of the Margaret River Region is actually protected national or regional park - such as the Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park or Meelup Regional Park - which means no furry friends can come and hang out in those areas. πŸƒ

But don’t worry - there are still plenty of tail-wagging spots where you can spend hours on end.

Here are some of our favourite dog-friendly beaches in the region:

πŸ‘‰ Busselton Foreshore
πŸ‘‰ Dunsborough Foreshore
πŸ‘‰ Bunker Bay, Naturaliste
πŸ‘‰ Eagle Bay Beach, Naturaliste
πŸ‘‰ Gnarabup Dog Beach, Prevelly
πŸ‘‰ Gracetown Beach
πŸ‘‰ Smiths Beach, Yallingup
πŸ‘‰ Yallingup Beach
πŸ‘‰ Flinders Bay Caravan Park Beach, Augusta

(Please note that there are specific sections on these beaches that allow for dogs.)

Margaret River red wine in the spotlight

A South West WA winery says its recent win at a national wine show indicates Margaret River is "nipping at the heels" of renowned wine regions in South Australia.

The Royal Adelaide Wine Show is considered to be the most "prestigious" of its kind, with more than 300 wineries participating from across the country.

Howard Park's Leston Shiraz 2023 won the prestigious Max Schubert AM Trophy for Most Outstanding Red Wine, over stiff competition from the Barossa Valley and other SA producers on their home turf.

Howard Park chief winemaker, Nic Bowen said the win was a reflection of his team's hard work.

"We've had a lot of changes and improvements that we have been employing over the last few years, particularly in the vineyard and the winery," he said.

"So, this is very gratifying."

Mr Bowen said the trophy has been particularly rewarding for a WA winemaker to take home, given SA is a well-established producer of Shiraz.

"I know there'd be a green tinge of jealousy from those South Australian producers, knowing that trophy has gone to Western Australia,” he said.

"It's not a variety that Margaret River has traditionally been well-known for ... so it shows that we're nipping at their heels all over the place, and that’s a great reflection of the strength of the state and the region’s winemaking capabilities.”

Also representing the Margaret River region at the show was Evans & Tate, which won Most Outstanding White Wine for its Redbrook Reserve Chardonnay 2023.
