Are you and your family travelling around Tasmania these school holidays? 🚘

Please be safe on our roads and remember to slow down for wildlife! Increased traffic on the roads around these times increases the risk of car strikes for our wild critters. 💔

Bonorong CEO Matt Clement said that almost three quarters of fatal incidents involving Tasmania's unique wildlife occur on our roads. 🦘

"Wallabies and possums account for the significant majority of animals killed or injured on our roads each and every day. And for our endangered species - particularly the carnivores - that means that they are more likely to be hit by cars as they feast on carcasses left on or by the side of the road.

"Slowing down between dusk and dawn will certainly help to reduce the chance of a collision. But planning your trip so that you avoid driving at night altogether; that's safer for you and your family and is guaranteed to reduce the impact that cars have on our precious wildlife."

Please be mindful on the roads, and if you do find injured or orphaned animals on your travels, remember that you can call Bonorong's 24/7 Wildlife Rescue Service any time of the day or night on 0447 264 625 for advice and assistance. ☎️
