✨ Transformation Series: Kitchen Edition ✨
From humble beginnings to modern elegance — our Transformation Series continues with a deep dive into the Original Cottage kitchen makeover.
The before? A sweet-but-cramped 1950s layout with lemon yellow walls, bench tops too narrow for even two dinner plates, and structural cracks that made us… slightly nervous. (Don’t worry — a structural engineer gave us the all-clear before we touched a thing!). She had charm, but it was time.
We went deep into Pinterest rabbit holes searching for inspiration — and time and time again, we found ourselves drawn to moody navy walls paired with matching floating shelves. The look popped up in so many beautiful variations, and each time, it stopped us in our scroll. That’s when we knew: this was the direction. Timeless cottage charm meets modern McLaren Vale living.
We took those recurring design cues and reimagined them to suit our own space, layout, and purpose — and it’s still a look that makes us swoon every time we walk in the door.
💡 The biggest change? The layout. We knocked down the wall between the kitchen and lounge to completely rework the space — creating a galley-style kitchen that flows into a custom dining nook.
The team at helped finesse the vision, and the quality of their cabinetry, benchtops and shelving is next level. The entire process was seamless.
A round table and built-in bench seat opened everything up, turning a once-cramped room into a beautifully functional hub. (There’s now more space around the table than there are guests in the house!)
We colour-matched paint to our cabinetry sample, added a glass-panelled back door to bring in more natural light, and chose textural, warm finishes that bring depth and softness to the space.
We’re so proud of this one — and if you’re renovating too, trust us:
Pinterest + planning = magic.
