Lilyarra Artisan Cheeses

Small batch. Single source. Carefully matured.

Lilyarra Artisan Cheeses focuses on goat milk cheeses made by artisan cheesemaker and affineur Gerard Callanan. Working with milk from a single dairy allows consistency and depth of flavour in every wheel.

These cheeses are creamy, bright and balanced. The natural acidity cuts beautifully through richer foods.

Serving suggestions?
Pair with Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Chenin Blanc, Vermentino or Albariño — especially cool-climate styles from the Adelaide Hills. Add to a grazing board, fold into Mediterranean dishes, or spread generously on warm bread.

You’ll find Lilyarra cheeses across the Adelaide Hills and Fleurieu Peninsula.

Udder Delights Cheese Cellar

A scenic 40-minute drive from McLaren Vale takes you through Meadows and Echunga to Hahndorf. That’s where you’ll find Udder Delights.

Founded by Saul and Sheree Sullivan, this cheese cellar is more than a shop. It’s a hands-on experience.

Start with a tasting flight. Add a wine pairing if you like. Then, if you’re keen, book a cheesemaking workshop. You’ll step into the process yourself — from feta to camembert to ricotta — guided by their master cheesemakers.

You leave with your own handmade cheese. That’s a pretty good souvenir.

Tips:
• Visit mid-week to avoid peak crowds.
• The cheese fondue for two is a standout.
• The truffle cheddar toastie rarely disappoints.

Tag someone who’d enjoy this stop with you.

Woodside Cheese

Cheese lovers, this one’s worth the drive.

Woodside Cheese Wrights crafts traditional cheeses in the Adelaide Hills, led by award-winning cheesemaker Kris Lloyd. There’s deep family ties to Coriole Vineyards, which makes pairing cheese and wine here feel natural.

Expect handcrafted cheeses with character — soft, washed rind, aged styles — all made with care and precision.

You can visit the cellar door for tastings and purchases. Mid-week visits are ideal if you prefer a quieter, more relaxed experience.

Planning a picnic? Pick up a few wedges and head back to your accommodation with a local bottle of wine.

Fleurieu Milk Company

Fresh milk within 24 hours of milking. That’s hard to beat.

Fleurieu Milk Company bottles right on the farm. The cows graze on year-round green grass thanks to the Fleurieu’s rainfall, and the milk goes from paddock to shelf fast. That speed shows in the flavour.

Their Jersey milk is rich and creamy. Cafés across the region love it for coffee. If you’re ordering a flat white locally, chances are this is what’s in it.

One thing worth noting: they run a refillable glass bottle program. Buy the bottle once and refill it at participating outlets or markets. One keg replaces thousands of single-use plastic bottles. It’s simple. It works.

If you care about freshness and reducing waste, this is an easy win.

Paris Creek Farms

Looking for truly organic dairy while you’re staying in McLaren Vale?

Paris Creek Farms has been producing certified bio-dynamic dairy for over 20 years. Their milk comes only from certified bio-dynamic farms in South Australia.

No pesticides. No synthetic fertilisers. No GMOs. No artificial colours or stabilisers.
It’s dairy the old-school way — clean soil, healthy cows, simple ingredients.

You won’t find a dairy door on site, but their products are widely stocked at farmers’ markets and retail outlets across South Australia and nationally. Keep an eye out for their yoghurt and milk while you’re exploring the region.

Why it matters:
Bio-dynamic farming supports soil health, animal welfare and long-term sustainability.

Deep Creek Waterfall

Inside Deep Creek Conservation Park you’ll find the Deep Creek Waterfall walk.

The trail begins near Trig Campground and runs about 4km return. The descent is manageable. The climb back up the stairs is the harder part.

Late autumn through winter offers the best flow and cooler hiking weather.

In hotter months the waterfall may slow to a trickle, though the waterhole often remains.

Start early if you can. Wildlife is more active and the track is quieter.

It’s one of the more rewarding hikes on the southern Fleurieu.

Murray Riv

Australia’s longest river finishes its journey here.

The Murray River flows more than 2,500km from the Snowy Mountains to the lakes and Coorong before reaching the sea at the Murray Mouth.

Near Goolwa you can explore barrages, wetlands and bird habitats shaped by tidal movement and river flow.

The Murray Mouth Lookout is around 50 minutes from McLaren Vale.

This is Ngarrindjeri country, rich in Aboriginal history and cultural significance.

Goolwa makes a practical base if you want to combine the Murray Mouth with the Coorong and nearby wineries in Langhorne Creek.

Big skies. Wide water. A sense of scale.

Hin

Hindmarsh Falls is one of the better-known waterfalls on the Fleurieu.

Fed by the Hindmarsh River, the falls drop roughly 20–25 metres over a series of pools before flowing toward Victor Harbor.

Winter and spring — especially after heavy rain — give you the strongest flow.
Access involves concrete paths and steep steps down to the viewing area. It’s not suitable for prams or wheelchairs, and steps can be slippery.

The walk isn’t long. Just take it steady on the return climb.

When it’s flowing well, it’s impressive.

Hallett Cove Conservation Park

If you want visible evidence of an ancient ice age, go to Hallett Cove Conservation Park.

The park preserves 280-million-year-old glacial features — chatter marks, striations, and massive rock formations including the Sugarloaf and Black Cliffs.
Walking trails wind through the formations and along the coast. The full coastal walk toward Marino stretches around 7km.

Spring brings wildflowers. Autumn offers comfortable hiking temperatures.

Allow time to stop and read the interpretive signs. They explain what you’re actually looking at — which makes the visit far more interesting.

It’s geology you can see with your own eyes.

Rosetta Head (The Bluff)

You’ll see it before you reach it.

Rosetta Head — better known as The Bluff — rises about 100 metres above Encounter Bay.

The 850-metre summit loop is moderate. Wind can be strong at the top. There’s very little shade.

From the summit you’ll see Granite Island, Wright Island and Seal Rock. Between June and October, whales pass through these waters.

Golden hour is hard to beat here. Early morning is quieter.

Sturdy shoes. Water. Sunscreen.

The views make the climb worthwhile.

Save this spot for a future Fleurieu wander.
