Best. Night. Ever.

We're still riding the high from our first annual Roadies awards party celebrating our awesome, funny, talented, gorgeous people.

A couple weeks ago we closed our venues and got the entire SHR family together to toast the huge year that was and award some standout legends for their contributions to our people, venues, culture and community.

In February this year, we were honoured to be awarded Best Hotel Group Operator at the National AHA Awards. Proud is an understatement. We adore our industry and the legends in it, and to be recognised for doing what we love is such a privilege.

As icing on this delicious cake, we’ve been announced as finalists in this year’s AHA (Vic) awards for:
Best Hotel Group Operator (Sand Hill Road)
Chef of the Year (Sarah Chan, Hotel Esplanade)
Outstanding Achievement in Training (Garden State Hotel)
Best Pub Restaurant (Tippy-Tay, Garden State Hotel)
Best Function and Event Space (Hotel Esplanade)

Today is , a topic we feel incredibly strongly about and a conversation that should happen every day. Take the time to check in with your mates, family, partner, classmates or workmates.
A simple question could save a life.
Mental health affects each and every one of us and is especially prevalent in our industry. Remember, it’s OK to ask for help, it’s OK to start again, it’s OK to have bad days, it’s OK to put yourself first and it’s OK not to be OK.

Our collaboration with the legends at Giant Steps not only produced a cracking wine but an epic weekend for our People & Culture Coordinator Stacey, who took out our group-wide comp to name the GSM Blend.⠀
We received a whopping 140 entries but couldn't resist "Thirsty Hearts Society" - "Both the Sand Hill Road and Giant Steps fams are constantly striving for more - we all have thirsty hearts. This wine is the product of those hearts coming together as a community, or 'society' if you will" Love your work mate!!⠀
Stace and her fella Steve were treated to an indulgent weekend in the Yarra Valley including a tasting and lunch at Giant Steps, dinner and accommodation at Healesville Hotel, tour, tasting and cocktails at Four Pillars Gin (pictured) and lunch at Oakridge Wines. ⠀
If you happen to be planning a weekend away, this itinerary is bang on!⠀

Late last year we launched Sandy Ovation, a tailored training and mentoring program developed to help our shining stars progress their careers. Every few months, 10 or so stand out legends are selected across the group with sessions curated based on each participants’ individual goals and interests.
A couple of weeks back our Sandy Ovation crew ventured to Giant Steps in Healesville to harvest grapes for our very own Thirsty Hearts Society – an incredible, hands-on opportunity to get involved in the process of bringing our collaboration with Giant Steps to life.

It’s not often we get a snap of a Sandy nom in action! Nominated by Marketing Coordinator Lucy (who tee’d up this brilliant shoot), our mate and resident legend at Shehan just won a Sandy for the ‘Laugh’ value (the essence of which is written all over his face in this snap)...⁣
“Shehan went above and beyond, taking one for the team and dressing up as Santa for our inaugural Pet Christmas Photos at the Bridge Hotel. When no one else wanted to cuddle dogs all day (weird, right?) Shehan stepped up to the plate. He donned a full Santa outfit for three hours while a parade of puppers jumped all over him, ripped off his ‘beard', scratched him, licked him. He was a great sport throughout the whole thing and did an amazing job as Santa!”⁣

Jez | Our Group Operations Manager and resident ‘hire a hubby’. This legend keeps us on our toes overseeing pretty much everything across the group from supplies to maintenance, forecasting to security, financials to staff development, you name it, Jez is across it. Don’t be fooled by his tough exterior and potty mouth – partial to a bit of MAFS and a sucker for puppies, this gentle giant is one of the greats.
