The little things in life make all the difference
"Ditto." A simple word that many of us had forgotten, until Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore reinvented it in the 1990 classic movie "Ghost". This simple word, their abbreviation for "I love you", became the inspiration behind our proposed romantic weekend away. Our destination - a spot of luxury at Ditto Daddy's in Mildura.

Ditto Daddy's, built on the site of the Old Horse Stables, looks the covers of most books - bland, unexciting and unenticing. A large corrugated iron fence, silver tin roof and a rectangular shaped building momentarily raised the eyebrows. But lo and behold, as that old saying goes, don't judge until you have gone behind the covers, where in this case you will find something very special indeed.

Through the secure roller door we drove, and made our way past the common courtyard up a few steps to the first floor apartment, where we were immediately besieged by a cascade of luxury. A simple yet elegant water feature trickled water on the upstairs balcony, while a stunning bird of paradise was the central attraction on the outdoor table. The outdoor furniture and the simple colored plaques on the walls made for an attractive secluded and private outdoor balcony area partially covered in autumn wilting grape vines.

Entering in through the french doors using our given security code, we were immediately left breathless at what was in front of us. Our eyes focussed immediately upon the largest four poster bed that we have ever seen in our travels throughout Australia. With a giant soft mattress, and a quilt cover that oozed class, this bed made an immediate play to become our sole consideration for the weekend.

The four poster bed, and much of the other décor at Ditto Daddy's is made from recycled timbers and old items from the horse stables creating an ambience that is only associated with fine polished wooden settings, something that started from the entrance, to the floorboards and most of the furniture.

Competing with the bed for our attention was a king size luxury spa, complete with leather head rests, and Italian tiles. This prominently raised and above ground spa was complemented by around a dozen candles and a couple of bottles of bubble bath. The his and her fluffy bath robes added to our moments of luxury.

Awaiting us in the fridge was another round of surprises. A large platter of mixed fresh fruit, chocolates, chocolate bunnies, cheese, olives, crackers, hot cross buns and a bottle of bubbly made sure that our thoughts would remain on staying inside the property rather than heading out and being a tourist.

Only one area left to explore, and the affluence wasn't quite finished yet. A bathroom with a double headed shower alongside a set of his and hers hand basins. And the doubles continued with a double set of super fluffy towels made for an ideal accompaniment to the bath robes, and provided spares in case drying time was extended.

After the initial excitement has passed, we settled in for our weekend of comfort and luxury in this former horse stable. It was only while resting and reflecting in this open planned living environment that many of the small features of the property came to our attention. The large deep purple couch was so soft and inviting, and resembled something akin to sinking in to a cloud while the redgum dining table and the wooden dvd cabinet both featured historic pieces from the old stables and stood proudly within the room.

The large noughts and crosses game, the modern version of scrabble, the various trinkets and every utensil that could be thought of was also available. The feature rug on the wall opposite the bed displayed some magnificent hues while the sun was setting, while the large flat screen was on a monitor stand that could turn 180 degrees. And I am sure that there was many more of the simple things in life that we took for granted, or missed entirely because we were so engrossed in the pieces that we could see.

Ditto Daddy's is a 1st Floor luxurious apartment for couples only, in a private and quiet location only 5 minutes walk from centre of Mildura and in particular Mildura's famous "Feast Street". Ditto Daddy's has is own off-street lock-up garage so you can park the car, and do most of your city based sightseeing, wining, dining and shopping by foot. The apartment has a fully equipped kitchen (small oven, microwave, dishwasher, all cooking and dining utensils), a BBQ in the downstairs courtyard, and has reverse cycle air-conditioning complete with interior and exterior ceiling fans.
