AT THE VERY TOP OF THE NORTHERN REACH 🌴

Lumière House, Mangerton.

Not quite the South Coast house you expect, which is exactly why it belongs here.

An original Art Deco home reworked into something entirely its own. Glass, curves, stone, landscaped gardens and spaces made to fill with people, sitting quietly above Wollongong with the city and coastline beyond.

It’s a family home first, which means access looks a little different here.

But for selected stays, particularly when there are more of you, a little more time, and an occasion worthy of taking over somewhere exceptional, the doors do open.

And heading into Spring and Summer, it’s one worth knowing you can ask about.

From Rose Valley, The Northern Reach returns to the water. Next stop, Kiama 🌴

Perched above Easts Beach, Pia’s Paradise puts one of the South Coast’s most recognisable coastlines firmly in view.

This is the Kiama side of the chapter. Headlands and ocean pools. Early walks by the water. A swim before lunch. Afternoons that somehow find their way back to the coast.

At home, there’s room for everyone to settle in without being on top of one another. Long breakfasts overlooking the Pacific, a garden made for slower afternoons, space for the kids to disappear outside and a fire waiting for when the temperature drops.

It’s less about filling the itinerary and more about having Kiama right there whenever you want it.

Escape to The Northern Reach of the Wandering Escapes collection

For the final stretch of Winter, we’re picking up at the northern edge of the Wandering Escapes collection, where three places sitting relatively close on the map offer three very different versions of the South Coast.

Rose Valley takes you inland, where green hills rise behind the coastline. Kiama keeps the ocean firmly at the centre of the day. Further north, Wollongong brings the coast into the city, making it as much a destination of its own as it is the beginning of the journey south.

And this is where we bring it back to where you stay.

From the scale and outlook of Excelsa above Rose Valley, to Pia’s Paradise on the Kiama coastline and Lumière House tucked into the hills above Wollongong, each home places you within a different side of this northern stretch.

With only two weeks of August remaining, there’s still time for one final Winter escape before the season changes. Stay three nights on any remaining August dates and only pay for two, with the third night on us.

You may have noticed this one from below.

Set high above Rose Valley, Excelsa occupies the kind of position that makes the geography of this part of the South Coast suddenly make sense. Green farmland falls away toward Gerringong, the coastline stays firmly in view, and from inside, almost an entire wall of glass is given over to it.

The house itself matches the scale of the setting. Seven bedrooms, separate wings and a central living space built around one very long table make this less a hideaway for two and more a place to bring everyone with you.

And yet, for all the space around it, Gerringong is only minutes back down the valley.

It’s our first stop beyond Kiama for Volume Two, and a good reminder that some of the best views of the South Coast aren’t found standing on the shoreline.

With only two weeks of August left, there’s also one last reason to make a winter escape happen before the season turns. Stay any three remaining August nights across the Wandering Escapes collection and your third night is on us.

A little more time away, before we welcome spring.

Happy birthday to the woman behind it all, Karly Barrett

Founder, mum, ideas person, problem solver, professional plate-spinner and somehow still the first person asking what she can do for everyone else.

There’s something pretty special about getting to work alongside a woman who has built so much, continues to back herself into what’s next, and makes big things happen without ever needing to make a song and dance about it.

Wandering wouldn’t be Wandering without her. Neither would a whole lot of the magic that happens quietly behind the scenes.

Today, however, the emails can wait. Someone pour her a gin and tonic.

Happy birthday boss lady. We love you xx

The Wanderer returns

Volume Two picks up at the northern edge of the Wandering Escapes collection, with Kiama leading us back in and Rose Valley and Wollongong widening the frame around it.

But this edition was never meant to retrace the South Coast pocket by pocket. With only a few weeks of winter left, we’re making them count. Expect a tighter edit of the places worth staying, the tables worth booking, the coast worth walking and the local favourites that make a few days away feel better spent.

And somewhere along the way, the season will start to shift.

The afternoons will stretch a little further, the coast will brighten, and Volume Two will begin leaving clues for what comes next.

Winter’s final chapter starts here. Spring is already on its way.
