Welcome to Fitzroy Inn, one of the finest country inns in the scenic Southern Highlands of New South Wales. Only one hour from the centre of Sydney by car and 2 hours by train. Set on the edge of a rural town, this charming Victorian colonial building with its wrap-around veranda opened as the Fitzroy Inn in 1836, and was the first lodge or guest house in the State to provide rooms as well as liquor. Today, the Fitzroy Inn continues that hospitable tradition and recently reopened as a country inn with a fine restaurant, set amidst five acres of tranquil, terraced gardens with a stream flowing through it. The estate is situated amongst the rolling hills of the Southern Highlands on an acreage dotted with century-old oaks overlooking Alexandra Mountain. The lavender-lined driveway, beautiful gardens and picturesque paths lead to the lovingly restored Inn where a warm welcome awaits. Courtyards, corridors, light, airy bedrooms and a basement so rich in yesteryear – you can almost hear the footsteps across the stone floors or the echo of whispers from the past.

One of the pleasures of visiting the Southern Highlands is discovering its lovely little country towns.

On Sunday 25 October, the Berrima Schoolyard Market returns, giving visitors a chance to browse local stalls before enjoying a coffee, exploring the village's historic streets or settling in for a leisurely lunch.

It's a lovely way to spend a spring morning, and just a short drive from Fitzroy Inn in Mittagong.

Make a weekend of it and enjoy everything the Southern Highlands has to offer.

Anyone who has a much-loved dog knows they tend to find their way into most parts of family life. Your wedding doesn’t necessarily need to be different.

Some couples choose to have their dog walk down the aisle with a member of the wedding party, while others simply bring them out for photographs after the ceremony. They don’t need to be involved all day to still feel like an important part of it.

Some events just need a beautiful space and the freedom to make it your own.

Our Marquee Lawn is an elegant garden setting for all kinds of celebrations, from relaxed cocktail events and long-table lunches to fully seated dinners under the open sky.

Surrounded by tall hedges and manicured lawns, with festoon lighting overhead as evening falls, it’s a flexible space that can feel relaxed, refined or somewhere in between.

🌷 Tulip Time is still on in the Southern Highlands until Monday 5th October, for a great spring escape.

One of the lovely traditions of Tulip Time in Bowral is a visit to the Country Women’s Association for freshly made scones and Devonshire tea.

Throughout the festival, the CWA will be serving scones and tea every day from 10am–2pm at the CWA building — a perfect little stop while you’re exploring the tulips and enjoying Bowral in spring.

Make a day of it, or better still, stay a little longer. Fitzroy Inn in Mittagong is a peaceful base for exploring Tulip Time and the Southern Highlands, with plenty of time for gardens, cafés, country drives and, of course, a good scone or two.

There’s still time to enjoy Tulip Time in the Southern Highlands, with the festival running until 5 October. 🌷

If you’d rather skip the busy weekends, a midweek visit is a lovely way to take it all in at a slower pace. Wander through the colourful displays at Corbett Gardens, explore Bowral and the surrounding villages, then retreat to the peace of Fitzroy Inn and our five acres of tranquil gardens.

Our Midweek Tulip Time Escape is available Monday to Thursday throughout the festival, with discounted accommodation, a welcome treat on arrival, continental breakfast and a complimentary 10.30am checkout.
