It is an amazing little heritage station- yet still part of the normal Sydney network. Mount Vic is open and easily accessible and we highly recommend everyone to stop, check out this station ( you could easily imagine Miss Marple wandering on this platform ) as well as grabbing a coffee whilst doing a bit of browsing in the Mt Vic shops and antique stores- such a great stop off or destination 👏👏
‘A model station and it would be well if the Government would repeat it as often as they have got occasion to build a railway station in the future.’ - The Sydney Mornjng Herald 1868
Have you been to the most beautiful train station in the Blue Mountains?
Our station opened in May 1868 as the last stop on the Great Western Railway. The railway extended beyond Mount Victoria in the 1870’s meaning agricultural goods and passengers could be transported over the mountains and across NSW by rail.
Early tourism meant people flocked to the mountains for the health resorts and of course Jenolan Caves. Railway travel guides of the 1880s promoted our region for its grand and beautiful scenery and bracing air. Travellers would make our village their base and take excursions locally and further west. Today, people still use our village for the same reasons.
The Victoria Pass is closed but Mount Victoria is open. The highway now detours through the village and on to the Darling Causeway. It’s a little longer but worth it.
Our sister Hartley below us would love you to stumble into her stunning world where you’ll find lollies, antiques, history, walks and coffees.
And of course, if you want to travel in old world style, why not take the new train to Mount Victoria and leave it all behind?
Historic and unexpected.
