We’ve just welcomed a small mob of Dorper sheep to Nature’s Edge – plus one very flash Damara ram keeping an eye on things.

They’re already making themselves right at home, munching their way around the paddocks and bringing a whole lot of character to the place.

Camping teaches resilience, but when nature turns wild, being prepared is everything. With a cyclone on the horizon, here are some survival tips that apply both in camp and at home.

Secure Your Shelter
Whether it’s a tent, swag, or home base, reinforce your setup. Strong winds? Tye ropes tight, pack down loose items .

Emergency Fire Prep
If you rely on fire for cooking, prepare now. Stock dry kindling and a windproof lighter. But in extreme conditions, gas is king.

Water is Life
Fill containers now. Clean drinking water can become scarce in a storm’s aftermath.

Food That Lasts
Pack high-energy, no-cook food. Nuts, dried fruit, and protein bars won’t let you down.

Power Up
Charge your devices, pack extra batteries, and grab a good head torch—because let’s be real, a hands-free light is a lifesaver.

Stay Alert

Thanks to the incredible work of the Mary River Catchment Committee and its partners, vital restoration efforts are helping to stabilize riverbanks, improve water quality, and create thriving habitats for native wildlife. From tree planting to erosion control, this project is making a real difference in restoring the health of our waterways.
