In 1858 a saddler by trade, James Dixon Little was operating the Australian Tannery at the rear of this site and it is believed that the present cottage was built by Little in the late 1850's as accommodation for work

ers at the tannery. The cottage, though now renovated, has retained much of its natural charm. Catering for one or two couples, there is a comfortable lounge with open fire, two bedrooms with luxurious linen, comfortable beds (one queen and one double), a superbly finished bathroom with enormous claw foot bath, fabulous dining room and large industrial stainless steel kitchen, with second fireplace, all complimenting the simple style of the early Victorian era. Enjoy the enclosed garden with covered verandah to sit and read the papers, sip a cup of tea or coffee, before strolling down the quiet Lawson Street to the town centre, the local markets, one of the many cafes, Roths Wine Bar, or the nearby Oriental Hotel. Country living in the heart of town - the best of both worlds. With off street parking, TV/DVD/CD – the Tannery is a getaway with modern and historic charm to please all of your senses. Just a short drive to the wineries to taste some of Mudgee's best at the friendly cellar doors and then off to one of the great eateries - bliss! Rates include bountiful continental breakfast provisions and exclusive use of this beautiful luxury historic home.

A huge shout-out as well to all the other winners and grinners of the night. We’re so lucky to be part of such a fun, collaborative, family-like wine community here in Mudgee.

This is a team effort that stretches back years – from those who helped plant and tend the vines, to those who helped us learn the ropes, build the cellar door, and finally, to everyone who shares a glass with us. We’re truly humbled.

The building looks simple from the outside but inside it is a revelation. Beautiful but functional antiques are scattered through the house. Two fireplaces - a large central one behind a screen in the kitchen (which was lit just before we arrived) and another in the loungeroom, are kept beautifully and with plenty of wood provided. The two bedrooms have heaters that warm rooms instantly. A stainless-steel kitchen is practical and complements the clean lines of the rest of the cottage.
