Somehow it’s October and the season is drawing to a close. Who stayed at The Rocky Outcrop campsite this year? We’re soaking up the last of the glow before the gates close for 2025.

On sunset tour, it’s about stepping into the depth of what long-term conservation really means, it isn’t just about a beautiful view (although it's pretty special too!)

We don’t offer surface experiences or throw around buzzwords when we're together. Instead, you’ll hear the real story. You’ll see how small, resilient plants in our fragile arid environment have survived years of misunderstanding, and learn why careful, dedicated care matters for the future.

The tour is about connection. Arming yourself with stories, knowledge, and a deeper understanding that you can carry forward to make change. Change that means healthier landscapes, better food choices, and supporting people and places rather than undermining them.

🌱 Hall of Fame 2025 🌱

On August 4th, in Katanning, Frances Po***ck and David Po***ck were honoured as two of the newest inductees into the WA Landcarers’ Hall of Fame (WA Landcare Network Inc)

The Hall of Fame recognises individuals who have dedicated their lives to caring for the land - through action, persistence, and a deep commitment to leaving the environment better than they found it.

Whilst we weren’t able to be there on the night, we were delighted to send along a little video to share our story and thanks. To be recognised alongside such inspiring people is humbling, and we’re proud to see Wooleen’s story woven into the rich history of landcare in WA. Our journey has been shaped by the belief that healthy landscapes sustain healthy communities, and this recognition is a reflection of everyone (staff, guests, friends, and supporters) who have shared in that vision and journey with us.

A heartfelt congratulations to our fellow 2025 inductees: Helen Watkins, Basil Schur, Heather Adams, Di and Ian Haggerty, and Louise Duxbury.

We’re proud to share that Wooleen Station has been selected as part of The Dream Collective for 2025.

This initiative by Western Australia recognises tourism operators across the state who are leading the way in sustainability, accessibility, and authentic experiences. We’re humbled to be among them.

For us, it’s never just been about running a station or hosting guests. It’s about restoring country, sharing stories, and inviting people to slow down and see the land differently.

To every traveller who’s sat at our table, walked our red dirt, or pondered on the banks of the Murchison - thank you. You’re part of the reason we’re here.

What a week.

Our first Return to Self retreat with the incredible Belinda McCawley from Mindful in Nature was everything we hoped for and more.

Over five slow and spacious nights at Wooleen Station, guests immersed themselves in a journey of reconnection: with land, with stillness, and with their own inner landscapes. Guided by the principles of deep ecology, they were invited to rediscover their ecological self, the part of us that recognises we are not separate from nature, but deeply and intrinsically part of it.

And you know what?
We think everyone really took something meaningful from this. Our Wooleen staff, guests, facilitators, and community alike.

The retreat began with a heartfelt Welcome to Country by Wendy Merry, a proud Wajarri Nyarlu, whose words grounded us in the story of this place and the people who have cared for it for millennia. From there, the days unfolded with presence and purpose. Quiet walks, shared meals, river moments, and open-hearted connection.

A huge thank you to Belinda for creating such a beautiful, grounded space and to Elyce from New Leaf Connect - Tours & Transport, who made it all possible by transporting our guests from Geraldton to Wooleen and back again.

We’re so grateful to the people who made this first retreat so special. Here’s to many more returns to land, to community, and to self.

We’re officially ECO Certified!

Wooleen Station has just been certified by Ecotourism Australia, recognising our commitment to conservation, cultural respect, and responsible tourism.

Accreditation is often about meeting industry standards — certification goes deeper. It’s an independent, rigorous assessment of our actual operations, values, and long-term vision. Certification means we’ve proven that what we say aligns with what we do.

But this is more than a shiny new badge.

It’s a public promise: We will never compromise the integrity of our landscapes for short-term gain.

Regenerative, responsible tourism means we don’t just minimise harm — we actively work to restore ecosystems, support biodiversity, share cultural knowledge, and contribute to a more sustainable future for rangelands like the Murchison. Every stay, every walk, every conversation is part of a much bigger story — one where tourism gives back more than it takes.

Thank you for walking gently with us 💚

Last week in Adelaide, Wooleen Station took home bronze at the National Tourism Awards for Hosted Accommodation — and we’re still coming down off the high!

It was such a joy to travel alongside the best that Western Australia has to offer — what an inspiring bunch of people doing incredible things across our state. A big shoutout to Jack Buckskin from Kuma Kaaru for the Welcome to Country that opened the ceremony.

This award celebrates our incredible team and the magic of sharing life out here in the Murchison.

A huge thank-you to everyone who supports what we do, we wouldn't be here without you — what a night!

One well-known study by David Strayer, a cognitive psychologist at the University of Utah, found that spending three days in nature without technology led to a 50% increase in creativity and problem-solving skills (Atchley, Strayer, & Atchley, 2012). 🌱

We agree with Dr. Strayer! Lock in a 3-day stay at Wooleen Station and create some space for stillness. Whether you’re brainstorming your next big idea or simply need a break from the noise, surrounded by wildflowers, Wooleen is the perfect place to clear your head and spark something new.

“Hope is a verb with its sleeves rolled up.” – David Orr

Hope, as David Orr describes, is not blind optimism but a commitment to act in the face of uncertainty. It is the belief that what we do matters, that our choices can shape a better future.

To us, hope looks like restoring landscapes, regenerating country, and working with nature instead of against it. It’s making decisions today that will allow the land to heal for generations to come. Because history has shown that ecosystems can recover, species can be saved, and landscapes can be restored—when people choose to care and take action.

By valuing and protecting biodiversity, we preserve not only the richness of life around us but also the possibility of a thriving future—one where responsible land management supports both healthy ecosystems and sustainable food production.

Despair pulls you into the past or overwhelms you with the future. Hope, through small, purposeful actions, keeps you grounded in what you can do right now. That’s why it must be a verb—something we do, not just something we feel. The best way to overcome despair is to act. There is no time like the present.
