Why Online Travel Agent (OTA) prices may cost more - the 'hidden' fee
If you’ve ever noticed a surcharge added when booking through an Online Travel Agent (OTA) such as Booking.com, Expedia, or Wotif, you’re not alone.
Many guests assume this is a fee added by the property, but that’s not the case.
These charges are applied by the OTA, not the motel. They’re listed in the booking platform’s own fine print and are part of the way OTAs structure their pricing. Unfortunately, motels have no control over these surcharges, they don’t go to the property and they’re not a “hidden extra” slipped in by us.
We understand it can feel confusing or even unfair, which is why we want to reassure our guests that the rate you see from us when you book direct is the true price, without any added OTA charges. When you book direct with a motel, you avoid these platform fees, and every dollar goes toward supporting local family businesses that are here to welcome you.
So next time you’re planning a stay, feel free to use OTAs for research and comparisons, but when it’s time to book, booking direct is the simplest way to ensure transparency, value, and support for your chosen property.
