If you could build your dream kitchen, what would it be? I was lucky enough to design and build not just one but two kitchens in our latest house build.
The main kitchen upstairs, like all kitchens is the central hub of the house but also it sets the vibe of the entire house so you have to get it right. For me I wanted a clever layout that’s functional so the flow works perfectly, maximum storage and all the smart gadgets but also I wanted it be inviting and beautiful.
A no brainer was having a window splashback to maximise not only light but also the ocean views but I wanted the window to be frameless so it feels like the thick stone benchtops just float which required careful planning and triple measurements but it’s perfect!
For privacy we added angled vertical battens on the window so people in the street can’t see in but we can see out.. also it adds to the exterior facade but breaking up the bulk of the building and added warmth and texture. Again really technical to make it fit perfectly but thanks to and for their meticulous attention to detail.
The downstairs kitchen (we’ve created a separate accomodation for our two adult daughters that we will eventually airbnb) had to be space efficient and functional and not look like a kitchen, more like a furniture peice.
We put allot of thought into our selections and materials and appliances and couldn’t be happier with the final result.. the smart appliances have turned me into Martha Stewart, the butlers pantry is my second favourite room (plus it hides all my sins) and the curved island bench and stone benchtops make me swoon. Learnt so many lessons pulling this together so happy to share so please comment below anything you wish to know.
