What a gorgeous calm autumn evening on the Glenelg River at Nelson!

The balmy night air with nothing but the sound of the putting engine going by. Imagine the serenity of sitting on the landing, quietly fishing, watching the birds, or reading a book, and the occasional boat putting by.

It doesn’t get much better than that.

Come stay at Wrens on Glenelg and kick back and enjoy the serenity of the picturesque Glenelg River.

Nelson Estuary is the ideal place to see large numbers of pelicans plunge diving for fish in shallow water or resting on the sandbars.

The pelicans who have a lifespan of between 15-25 years have an extremely wide wingspan of between 2.5 – 3.4 metres and can reach a top flying speed of 56kms! Fun fact: they have the longest bill of any living bird!

I particularly love watching them as the sun goes down over the Estuary, it is so relaxing.

Come stay at Wrens on Glenelg and enjoy these majestic birds and the beautiful sunsets over the Estuary at Nelson, Victoria.

At Wrens on Glenelg, Nelson Vic, we are very privileged to have at least two pairs of Rufous Bristlebirds who call our place home. Nelson is a photographer’s dream when it comes to capturing photos of these endangered birds.

Rufous Bristlebirds (Dasyornis broadbenti) are a similar size to a blackbird, have a long fan like tail and run extremely fast rather than flying. They prefer the low lying scrub and bushes, which is why they can be easy prey.

There are three types of bristlebirds, being the Eastern, Rufous and Western.

Bring your camera and sit quietly on the deck at Wrens on Glenelg and you might be lucky enough to get a great photo!

Come stay with us at Wrens on Glenelg to see these majestic flowering plants which are currently flowering not far from Simsons Landing in Nelson.

They are called Xanthorrhoea Glauca, and are slow growing but long-lived plants, and hold significant cultural importance to first nations people. The flower spikes were used for spears, the nectar for sweet drinks, and the resin was used as an adhesive.

They are commonly called ‘grass trees’ or ‘kangaroo tails’.  The bees are loving them! Come see for yourself!

There are plenty of short walks to do whilst in Nelson if you’re not a long distance walker.

Two short walks you can do from Wrens on Glenelg are to the Isle of Bags or Simpsons Landing and back.

Another highly recommended one (2.8kms) is the Livingston Island walk, out at the Estuary, where you can secretly watch the amazing birdlife from the bird viewing platform.

There is an Audio walking tour of Livingston Island which you can download and listen to whilst you do the walk! It is fabulous!

Go to nelsoncoastcare.org to get the audio guide, or use the QR code at the information board at the start of the walk.

What better way to end a day of exploring, walking or fishing, than to treat yourself to a nice long soak in a luxurious deep spa bath.

The Glenelg River at Nelson is the place to be for the Vic Bream Classic tournament on June 21 & 22.

The event is a lure and fly only event, where the fish are weighed live and released.

The place comes alive with boats of every description and keen anglers chomping at the bit to win a prize.
