Calling all bird watchers 👀🦆

This time of year on Phillip Island is marked by an extraordinary wildlife event - the departure of the Short-tailed Shearwater fledglings on their very first migration.

Watching thousands of birds lift off at sunset from Cape Woolamai is a truly unforgettable sight.

Because the fledglings are drawn to light, everyone can help by turning off outdoor lights at night and driving slowly and carefully on island roads - Dark Sky So Shearwaters Fly - Phillip Island Nature Parks

Our Story...

After an eight-month fight, we lost Karen - my wife and Marks's sister - to cancer in 2022.

Karen was a passionate traveller, adventurer and educator. Her mantra, Family, Adventure, Life, is with us every day. We know she would love that Mark and I are taking on the 2026 Winter Sh*tbox Rally togther in her memory.

We'll be hitting the road in our $1500-or-less Sh*tbox, driving from Mildura to Townsville on an unforgettable seven - day adventure. It's not just about the drive - its about helping make a differnece in the fight against cancer.

Now this is how you enjoy the first day of summer! 🏄🌊

With the weather warming up, we're welcoming visitors back to the beautiful beaches of Phillip Island. Here’s Cape Woolamai, one of the island’s most popular surfing spots, surrounded by striking cliffs with breathtaking views.

Planning a trip? Here's our top tips to stay safe at the beaches:
🚩Always swim at patrolled locations
🚩Warning, swimming is not advised at Woolamai Beach
🚩Check out Cowes Beach or Smiths Beach during patrolled dates.
🚩Stay sun safe in hot weather and take steps to protect yourself and others
🚩Stay away from cliff edges and the base of coastal cliffs
🚩Be sure to download the Surf Life Saving Australia Beachsafe app and read important information from Life Saving Victoria on their website

Try this return 16km ocean walk as a day walk option if you're feeling energetic!

Or you might organise a car-shuffle and just do the 8km from the San Remo end to Kilcunda! There's a pub and a General Store at Kilcunda.

In other news, i's great to see that Transport Victoria put in a pedestrian crossing over the highway last year so people can get safely across to the food at the turn-around point of this very popular walk!
